I have the same gear problem too...

I have done 3200 kms in approx 35 days and still gear is stiff...if I caefully slot it it works well..but otherwise4th to5th is very tough..

On FE...15kmpl is same as waht I'm getting..but if I use accelerator less inlesser traffic I get 17 approx in city..In highway I get around 21-22..but 18-19 when I'm ripping above 120kmpl consistently...

 

I have just clocked 1650 Km in 7 weeks and my gearbox is still stiff. However, I drove my friend's Punto which has done 16,500 Km and the gearbox is like cheesecake. He told me to relax and that it will smoothen out with more miles.

 

Its True Relativity, Your Grande needs more miles to go, and believe me the more it travels the younger it gets, thats what call FIAT.
Even i have tried my friends Punto which has run more than 20000 kms, and the drive is super smooth.

 

wow...so accurate! Same experience i had with my friends punto which has already clocked more than 15k ....his gear box is very soft!!!
hope this happens with our 2012 model too

and yes puntosat, the FE is almost same as you said...hope this also will get better with time
