Chandigarh To Shimla Via Timber Trail

This was the route we took:

    ChandigarhToShimlaRoute.jpg

After tucking in good breakfast, we checked out of Hometel and headed for Himalayan Expressway. We decided to visit Timber Trail at Parwanoo en route as recommended by PaddleShifter and rajankamboj. I searched for Timber Trail in PoI in my MMI navigator. It showed the route via NH 22, which I sincerely followed. After driving on the 4-laned Himalayan Expressway for distance, my MMI navigator guided me to turn towards left leaving 4-laned road to 2-laned NH 22 through Pinjaur, Kalka and Parwanoo towns. I listened to my navigator, which was a bad decision. While reaching Timber Trail, the beautiful 4-laned Kalka bypass joined NH 22!:( Timber Trail has resorts both at the base and top of the mountain. We enjoyed the rope-way cable car ride costing Rs 650 per head. Later, we continued our journey and reached HPTDC Holiday Home, Shimla by 4:30 pm.

Fellow-TFI'ian rajankamboj was kind enough to meet me at at the hotel amidst his hectic schedule. He gave valuable tips for our Kinnaur-Spiti-Lahaul trip. He suggested some shops in The Mall for our shopping. The last, but not the least, he presented me with a Himachali cap. Thanks a lot, rajankamboj.::T TFI rocks!

No, vijays777. The tyre burst happened on NH 1 after crossing Karnal. It was not bald. It had about 3 mm deep tread left still, when it had burst. But, I started getting the sound on YE, when a good samaritan SX4 guy overtook and cautioned me by pointing out the tyre.

This was the day of shopping at The Mall, Shimla!:) We got up late, breakfasted, walked up to the lift, took the lift to The Mall and shopped caps, shawls, jackets, etc. Later, we strolled on The Mall, had coffee at the famous Indian Coffee House and returned to our room.

Looks like people prefer to walk in Shimla. Not much vehicles seen on road.
    Excellent photos.

Thanks, sungoa2010. Shimla is notorious for narrow roads and availability of parking space is very rare. Shimla's road is more congested than Bangalore's!:(

Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla

    28 September 2012 Friday

After breakfast, we checked out of HPTDC Holiday Home and proceeded to the Indian Institute of Advanced Study [IIAS] located on the Observatory Hill, Shimla. IIAS was originally known as Viceregal Lodge during the British Raj, and later, Rashtrapati Nivas. The Shimla Conference was held here in 1945, and subsequently, the tripartite India Pakistan Partition Agreement was signed here in 1947. The signatories of the historical agreement were Lord Mountbatten, representing the British Raj, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India and Mohammed Ali Jinnah, Pakistan. Symbolically, the rosewood table, on which the agreement was signed, was also made of two parts!:)
