The poll is simple. Which Fiat Car Released in India has Best Build Quality?

Forget about other safety features such as ABS and Airbags. Subject should covers only external body/metal/steel strength.

My Vote goes to Palio. What about yours?

After you vote, If possible, please write your insights too

By build quality do you mean the sheet metal thickness? By that standards, every Fiat car will be eligible. Build quality is not all about metal quality only but also the durability of the equipments fitted in the car like suspensions, engine, brakes, clutch pads etc.

Anyways why are we polling for Fiat cars, shouldn't the comparison be with the competitors?

Of course Yes, the sheet metal thickness/quality. Fiat lover shouldn't have any blind love for its products. However, let's see to know the best among Fiats. :)

If you talk of engineering and features that matter (masala) in the whole car, nothing is close to Palio Adventure. Not saying fancy features, but plain old engineering, suspension esp.

Voted for Other. Palio Adventure. Lot of car for the money paid.

Build quality can be judged by following:

    1. Quality of plastics used for inner panels/dash boards/steering column/instrument cluster. A given Car is said to have better interior build quality, if the plastics used are hard wearing, durable and good to touch.
    2. The panel gaps inside. Gaps should be minimum and even. there should be uniform tolerances.
    3. The panel gaps outside. Example, the shut lines of the doors, boot, bonnet, fuel cap etc. the gaps between two metal sheets. All should be uniform and even to be termed as better built.
    4. The metal gauge and the quality. Cars with flimsy metal sheets (can be depressed with a light force) is not considered as better built.
    5. Proper sound and water insulation for the cabin.
    6. quality of rubber beadings and felt used for insulation.
    7. Quality of paint.
    8. Finishing Details (Joints/welds etc.)
These are the major things which define the quality. Yet the term "quality" dosent mean a uniform standard. Built quality depends on the segment the car is put or the price it has. For an example Maruti 800 will look poorly built in comparison to Honda Jazz or VW Polo. But these address different segments and different buyers, so the build quality of a 800 cant be compared to the Polo or Jazz. Although the BQ of a ford endeavor can be compared to toyota fortuner, as they target same customers and have the same price range.

On a similar note because weight of car is less, it does not become automatically unsafe, not always. Its also unfair to always look down on weight reduction, esp. if advanced materials have been used in car structure frame and chassis. One can google up boron steel for the same. The right balance is needed for safety and Volvo leads industry in the right manner.

Also important is the way the car crumples but it has been discussed already. The efficacy and (design) intelligence in the way the car absorbs impacts and changes shape while keeping occupants safe.

I wish it was that simple. Customer's need maybe a vehicle priced at 1lac for example and able to commute 2 people. But what the customer actually definitely needs is also safety and ruggedness and longevity of vehicle for harsher road or drive conditions and at reasonably high speeds where safety becomes that much more crucial. 'Build Quality' which is what is purpose of this thread is what binds this very forum and still gives every Fiat owner a reason to hang on to their possessions irrespective of other factors like features, updates, upgrades, service and others. Not the only reason agreed, but a big and valid reason which they cherish.
