Will Linea fare the same fate as PUNTO did at the hands of POLO??
Personally I hope it doesn't,because a Higher end LINEA still has more feautres like blue and me,steering mounted audio controls, rear sunscreen, etc not found in a Vento, but still Vento has an auto transmission,1.6 l engine in the place of 1.4 l one and of course badge value :sad1 ,but it is sure to hit SX4,Verna,Fiesta,ANHC and even a Manza.Well,in this situation how can LINEA escape and survive??.It was doing reasonably well doing 1000 plus units every month, unlike Punto
If I were to buy a sedan today, still it will only be a Linea :up
Even more difficult will be the situation of LINEA T-JET
What to do you think, will happen? :?:

Pricing is certainlly a factor. And there will me some impact Linea, as to other in same segment.
However, Punto, as well as i20, maintained their sales almost same after Polo. Indian auto market is growing at very fast pace and there is space for newer versions.

My thinking is Linea diesel will not have major impact. And all depends on Linea T-Jet, if market response is positive, it will sustain or increase its sales from 1K.

Punto is not cheap in its segment, but Linea is best VFM. Lineas good sale is more important than Puntos.

That is absolutely correct Ravi,Linea is a VFM,cheap sedan for it's size and could do reasonably well inspite of poor plastics and fit and finish, but PUNTO was not a cheap hatch.Well, that reflects the reason behind the sales chart of PUNTO climbing down for 2,500 to less than a thousand.I wish atleast now FIAT wakes up and provides a better fit and finish and good quality plastics
Yes,I too think that diesel Linea will not be affected because after the discounts it is still cheaper than VENTO by a lakh and even with a 1.3 l engine it is still driveable courtesy the torque.I think petrol LINEA will be hit, especially the base variants

When I think of buying a sedan, honestly I am not very sure which one to go for. Linea was/is at the top of the list, but Vento will also be placed there.

At the end of the day : a logical, well-informed and thoughtful customer will do a proper comparison and see the price to benefit ratio.

Those who want to go for hype and love the VW badge will go for the Vento with eyes closed.

Besides, I don't see how VW's thin dealership and service network is going to allow them to do volumes.

Well, let's wait and watch. There will be "some" impact on Linea : but not as significant as it will be on the Honda City. I for one, hope to see that car get kicked out of the market.

What I am looking forward to is the pricing of the Linea T-Jet.

I think, Honda Siel, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motors have to worry more than Fiat India. Anyway, competition is good for customers ultimately. After introduction of Linea T-jet, we will get the real picture. ANHC will definitely get more impact with considerably reduced numbers after introduction of VW Vento. For Fiat Linea, which is selling around 1000 per month, the impact will be less.

I honestly feel that VW may have an ace up its sleeve when it comes to service and if they activate it, then they are well set for the Indian market. It is precisely for these reasons that they would have picked up the 20 % stake in Suzuki.
Most probably VW may force the service onto the Maruti Suzuki network due to the stake unlike TATA FIAT sharing which was due to an agreement.
If the above scenario unfolds then the story in the Indian car market could get twisted.

Guys I tried searching for the dimensions of the Vento.... found it nowhere! :confused Can anyone confirm it??

Now what I feel is, if the dimensions are similar to the polo but only with a boot strapped on; something similar to Dzire (Swift with a boot) or Indigo CS (indica with a boot) then there is no way is can be compared to the Linea, Vista!! :A :A
:uh The ones who do compare it (motor review forum/magzines/TV shows)... ROFL... :hit

Because, its all in the wheelbase, where the rear passenger comfort is all about..! ::T
like amogh said, in the end majority sales would be by the hype impressed & VW badge lovers.

As for me, i really dont think Linea sales would be affected & if they are then i'm assuming a little marginal drop in sales figures, or Fiat needs not to be worried... :up
Face to face (2 different category cars) Linea leads hands down (even with the fit & finish on the VW side) Just look at the linea!! ::V

Note: My assumption is based Purely on the wheelbase of the Vento being similar to the Polo.
If it happens to be different; then the Linea sales would be affected, but not that big difference.

lets see how Fiat India reacts to it. they have to be more prompt and aggressive in marketing the Linea T-jet. pricing has to be spot on. new attractive colors need to be added. if these things fall in at right time and soon , without much delay then i think Linea shudnt have much problem by its new rival.
