That's surely a great news. Hope FIAT does well on the rough terrain without any suspension tweaks. I am only worried about getting hit underneath.
  2. Fiat does an expedition to Ladakh

The Punto 90 HP Multijet and Linea T-Jet, have set out for an exigent expedition to salute the true spirit of Ladakh. Prof. Rajni Abbi, Mayor of Delhi flagged off the 18 day drive from the capital city of India. The journey would be from Delhi to Leh and back, covering a drive of close to 20000 kms. Eight Cadets from Chetna college, Mumbai, would undertake this adventurous journey which will allow the two Italian beauties to taste some of the most scenic roads enveloped by green fields, the rough terrains on the snow capped mountains and magnificent valleys. During their expedition they would also be visiting Pangong Lake, Thangsey and Nubra valley.
Speaking about this exciting expedition, Mr. Rajeev Kapoor, President & CEO, Fiat India Automobiles Ltd. said, “Fiat’s Punto 90 HP MULTIJET and Linea T-Jet are known for their power, drive and fuel efficiency. Our cars have a strong build and all the necessary features to enable a smooth drive on the rocky hilly terrains. It would truly be a proud moment to see the Fiat brand standing tall on one of the highest altitudes of the country. We wish all the cadets a great and memorable journey with Fiat’s Punto 90 HP multijet and Linea T-Jet.”
This expedition celebrates the true spirit of the Indian army who have been securing our borders for over the years now and safeguarding our country from the eye of the enemy. The Indian army embodies the qualities of strength, resilience and an enduring persona which the two powerful cars will also showcase during the entire drive by fighting the tough weather conditions and moving up the hilly terrains. The cadets will visit various army units, local populous and also halt at Vaishnadevi during their journey.
The proposed route for this expedition would start from Delhi university(North), gate- 3, and en-route via Pathankot, Srinagar, Kargil and finally halt at Leh and start the return journey to reach Delhi on Monday,18th July.

I am worried for Linea T Jet. I am sure that Punto 90HP will work very well on rough terrain.

Both will be just fine. The Linea too is solidly built.

The only thing that will be working harder than normal at the higher altitudes will be the turbos of these two cars. :)

Driveability wise, the GP 90hp just might trump the Jet at high altitudes.

I wish this guys write a detailed blog when they return.

This development has provoked me again to dream of going from Srinagar to Leh and back in my Linea! I am keenly awaiting the team's return on 18 July 2011.

It's just one of my calculated guesses. The VGT is going to make things relatively easier than the FGT in the T-Jet. And being a diesel helps too.

The only downside is that diesel might tend to get jelled up due to the extreme cold , whereas petrol will not. But i don't think these guys are gonna go to such extremes. Leh is okay for diesels. I've seen plenty of Qualises and Scorpio's do duty there.

Here are few ideas I can give FIAT-INDIA to sell more.
1.Buy one get one free offer(it indeed happen with Daewoo Matiz in it's final days but I doubt people will buy Fiat cars with even such an offer)
2.A foreign trip free for all the adventurous souls who veture into the showroom for a TD
3.An acre of land free in the Ranjangoan plant for all the existing Fiat car owners who plan to upgrade to T-JET.
Guys,I love my Linea as much you do and don't come after me for these ideas, they were just to cool people who are under stress due to poor sales of Fiat cars.
Just relax and enjoy your car.
