I went bonkers when I read this .....

A new revolution is to commence in the air travel
as the Ryanair is planning to introduce flights where the passengers could stand up for a meager amount of £4 per ticket. And in order to make the passengers travel, cheaper yet weigh less vertical seats will be provided that, as per Chief executive Michael O’Leary, will be tested for safety next year. Other than the £4 per ticket, the airline is considering to charge the passengers £1 extra for using the toilet.

The plan will be implemented while removing the back ten rows of seats from the carrier’s 250 planes and replace them with 15 rows of vertical seats. There are also possibilities for the removal of the two back toilets that will provide ample space for 40-50 extra passengers travel on each flight. However, the vertical seats will be introduced on commuter flights of up to an hour in length. It surely sounds great to provide a cost effective travel to hoi polloi but I wonder if these vertical seats will meet the safety standards whatsoever.

For people used to traveling in our crowded public transport system, with barely enough space to put one foot on the ground, these should be fun

Interesting concept! The "seats" though look uncomfortable specially that thing that comes over the chest.

Another point is what if a person buys something and wants to eat it? How does that work on these vertical seats?

Adding 15 rows of vertical seats by removing 10 rows of normal seats means only 5 rows additional..means 30 seats extra. This might not be enough in finacial terms, or practical/ economical from airline point of view

    15 rows = 90 seats @ £4 = £360

10 rows of normal seats = 60 seats, If normal seats are at £6 per seat then also it just equals £360 :confused

And if the difference between normal seat & vertical is not substantial than it might not attractive to consumers
