Michelin 3ST after 37200 Kms. It still holds good compared to the earlier good years,

Here is a number comparison between my previous set Goodyear Eagle NCT5 and Current set Michelin 3ST.

    Wear and Tear:

    Goodyear Eagle NCT5 after 35582

    TyO1Optimized.jpg

Michelin 3ST after 37200, still it has some good life.

    20160204_123032-Optimized.jpg

    Punctures:

    • Goodyear Eagle NCT5, I think it got 4 punctures.
    • Michelin 3ST, 2 punctures so far.
    Fuel Efficiency:

    • During this 35582 Kms on Goodyear Eagle NCT5, the average FE was 15.56
    • So far, during its 37200 Kms in Micehelin 3ST, the average FE is 16.27
Note: FE calculated based on the Full tank-Full tank method

Considering that the driving conditions were almost similar throughout, I feel Michelin is really worth the extra money. Also, Michelin offers far better comfort level, is silent and better grip.

Pricing wise both are in different segment though. I compared it because, many ask me about the FE in 3ST as they feel Michelin tyres affect the FE due to its soft nature.

    74493 on ODO:

This is the exact Km at which my previous car(Dzire) met with an accident that totaled it(salvage loss).

    Dzire:

    Linea:

The Linea crossed this number two days back. So, now Linea has got past both my previous cars, WagonR and Dzire.

ODO is now close to 75K.

Normal Servicing along with EGR Cleaning, Intercooler Cleaning @ 77K Kms:

This time decided to get the EGR and Intercooler cleaning as well during the normal servicing. Even though Fiat doesn't have this mentioned in the service manual, I decided to go ahead with this after advise from experts.

I normally service at Vecto Motors, but its very crowded these days and also they were reluctant to do the EGR, Intercooler cleaning. Moreover their charges for this is on the higher side. So, decided to take the car to True Sai, Salem which has some very good feedback.

    EGR Cleaning(Including Manifold Intake):

This is a very tedious job and took around 4-5 hours to complete. At one point, I was really worried on whether the technician will be able to put it back without any issues due to the number of nuts and bolts/connections/hoses that were involved. However, the technician told me that he does a minimum of one EGR cleaning per day and asked me not to worry.

Intercooler cleaning didn't take much time and after this the normal servicing was done.

Here are some before and after pics of EGR, Manifold intake,

    Overall work done:

    • General Check-Up
    • EGR Cleaning(Including Manifold Intake)
    • Intercooler Cleaning
    • Engine Oil replacement.
    • Engine Oil filter replacement.
    • Air Filter replacement
    • AC Filter replacement
    • Brake Cleaning(Front and Rear)
    • Front tyres were inter-changed as there was a left pull.

    Total Bill came to 6920/-

Asked them to check the Brake Rotors, they took some measurement on the thickness and told me that I can wait till the next brake pad replacement.(Maybe another 20K Kms alteast)

Overall, these guys are very good and worth driving down to salem if you want to get the EGR/Intercooler cleaning done. thumbs%20up.gif

Obviously, I enjoyed the solo drive. biggrin.gif

After this servicing, I feel that the engine is more smooth, the noise level has come down especially between the 2K-3K RPM. Pick-up has improved a lot. Engine note is more sweet to hear now :)

Excellent mate, I think small preventive maintenance like these will help you keep the car in a much better shape. Also iam grinning wide when I saw that service bill.
But do I read it correctly that you exceeded the interval by 2k kms.

    Cheers,
    Pradeep.

True, preventive maintenance will definitely help in the long run.
No, I didn't exceed the interval. Previous servicing was done at 67K Kms. And 60K Kms servicing was done at 59K Kms. So, basically I am trying to maintain a 10K Kms gap between each service. However some times, due to long drives I do it little earlier.

Great going mate. Good to see the Linea scale the magical 7's. Its been quite some time that you have not posted any travelogue. Is it year ending/beginning work pressure or there's no location left to be explored?

Happy mile crunching and drive safely.
