My GP 1.4 Dynamic 2009 Model (~ 35K kms) has 14" steel rims and JK Tornados 165/80 R14. I know it hasn't run much considering 2009, as I was away from my GP for some years, but last year it clocked around 18K kms. Here is my problem, wherein I need expert advice. As you guys must be aware, while driving the 2009 models, there are lot of underbody scrapping due to low GC. I am looking forward to change all the JK's and deliberating on the below options-

    1) Upgrade to 185/70 R14 with better tyres, i.e. - Bridgestone, Yoko or Michelin. In this case, GC remains almost same or theoretically, it will be (-) ve 2.5 mm
    Aspect Ratio:
    Existing>> 165 x 0.8 = 132
    Proposed >> 185 x 0.7 = 129.5

    2) Get OEM 15" Linea steel rims with caps and put 195/65 R15 tyres on them. Not interested for Alloys as of now, because of the quality of roads I generally drive here. Not that alloys are not sturdy, it more of replacement costs for defects. In this option, my GC improves by 7.25 mm approx. (not sure whether my calculation/interpretation is correct here)
    Aspect Ratio:
    Existing >> 165 x 0.8 = 132
    Proposed >> (195 x 0.65) + 12.5 = 139.25

    3) With OEM 15" Lines steel rims, which is better option, i.e. - 195/60 or 195/65 ??

According to my limited knowledge in variants, 1.4 does come with 15" alloys,
Only 1.2 came with active and dynamic (emotion at that time).

Your calculation in 185/70 is right , the GC would reduce by 4.5mm and will not create a issue IMO , and GC will increase will the upgrading of 15" rims, that is also correct

Its up to you how and where to spend ,
& 195/65 would be bit more comfortable comparing to 195/60, iirc the stock Tyres come with 65 s

    165/80 R14 = Stock

    185/70 R14 = -0.81%

    185/65 R15 = 0.31%

    195/60 R15 = -0.74%

    195/55 R16 = 0.21%

    215/45 R17 = 0.92%

    Question 1
. 0.39 inch down . Wont be visible I Guess

Question 2 . Your calculation is wrong(195/65 R15), It will give a change of 2.4% in your speedometer and odo meter. With 15 inchers alloy/steel 195/60 R15/ 195/55 R15 would sit perfect .

    80mm-60mm=20mm/0.79 inch
    80mm-55mm=25mm/0.98 inch

Overall if you upgrade it to 15 incher it would not help you as you are increasing your rim size buy 1 inch and here your tyre's aspect ration is down by 0.79/0.98 inch.
If you change to 185/65 R15 then it might help you roughly 1/2 inch down which wont matter a lot. Regarding the fitment of the tyre you need to ask the shopkeeper.

    Question 3. 195/60 R15 /195/55 R15

    My Mistake reposting it

Question 2 . Your calculation is wrong(195/65 R15), It will give a change of 2.4% in your speedometer and odo meter. With 15 inchers alloy/steel 195/60 R15/ 195/55 R15 would sit perfect .

    80mm-60mm=20mm/0.79 inch
    80mm-65mm=15mm/0.59 inch

Overall if you upgrade it to 15 incher it would not help you as you are increasing your rim size buy 1 inch and here your tyre's aspect ration is down by 0.79/0.59 inch.
If you change to 185/65 R15 then it might help you roughly 1/2 inch down which wont matter a lot. Regarding the fitment of the tyre you need to ask the shopkeeper.

    Question 3. 195/60 R15 / 185/65 R15

    Thanks for your suggestions guys.

@ moksh - My GP 1.4 2009 has 14' rims. I agree on the size upgrade calculation mistake, due to oversight on GC, I ignored the big time odo error...Secondly, even with 15' rims and 195/60/R15, am not gaining anything on GC and 195/65/R15 is not the right upgrade due to odo error. So, my option below in series (staggered approach with eye on Vitamin M)-

    1) Am getting the GC upgrade done, approx INR 14K hole to my pocket, but guess I need it, tired of being nervous with underbody scrapping (my old school GP has 165 mm)
    2) Will stick to 14" rims and will get 185/70/R14 Michelin XM2/Yoko Earth1/Bridgestone B 290

Let me know your perspective among the best tyres on 185/70/R14...(need not be among the 3 mentioned above)

    Regards,

Actually, 195/65R15 eliminates the odo error that exists from factory and gives you the closest reading to GPS speeds. @shams runs this size and might be able to comment

@Abhijeet Sarkar I would choose like this
Steel Wheel 15inch =1049 per Peice
    Wheel Cover =370 per Peice
    Falken 195/60 R15 =2785 Per Peice/ 185/65 R15 = 2474 Per Peice

    Complete Kit for 195/60 R15 = 16816 which is = Michelin XM2 185/70 R14 Just Tyres(17000)
Complete Kit for 185/65 R15 = 15572 (conform with Shopkeeper whether 185 fits perfect on 15inch according to rim width)

@PatchyBoy, good to see you back :)!
Yes 195/65/r15 does eliminate the odo error and the actual speed is almost equal to GPS speed!

Not to mention the raised GC and extra cushion in the ride which are very good to have

@shams, yours is pre 2012 or post? If post 2012 then already gc is high and if we use 195 65, it will increase even more gc..... Will that affect in any way?

^^mine is 2010. yes for the models that came after 2012 GC increase won't be required.
