Finally I could on my hands on my new grande punto Tuscan wine on 23rd Oct. My last post was before the delivery after the PDI. Thanks a ton for the TFI’ns for the valuable suggestions on the PDI. Its been two weeks since I took the delivery. Sorry for the delay mates.

    The Delivery:

Aadya Motors at Mekhri circle, Bangalore offered a fantastic service from booking to Delivery. I was promised a delivery @ 5 PM on. As I was heading to my village on the same day for Diwali celebration, I had packed my entire luggage in to Indigo (which I exchanged) and went along with the family to take the procession. Aadya was generous enough to allow me to use my indigo till I get my hands the TUSKER. I was at Aadya by 5.30 PM

Sales rep was ready with the welcome kit (car manual kit, some sweets, Ganesha idol, documents etc). As it was pouring on the day, all my final checks had to be restricted to the basement of the dealer showroom. The rep had demo for around 30 minutes. And I could not take any pictures during delivery. Finally we could get in to car at 7:30 PM. And we straight away head to our village which is around 120 kms from bang.

    First drive:

It was still pouring and traffic was crawling at Mekri circle. As I was driving Fiat for the first time, I was very uncomfortable with the loooong clutch travel. In fact Engine stalled couple of times and I had to bear the frustrating honks from the back. I knew it’s a matter of time till I get used to it. So never bothered about it. The fun began once I crossed horrible Bangalore traffic. It was still raining and pleasant drive for the rest NH4. As I was driving Indigo before, needless to say, everything my TUSKER offered me was a premium. Really didn’t find any issues.

Reached village at around 10.30 pm, rest of the family was already fast asleep. My family and inlaws had reservations on my choice of Fiat for the obvious reasons which did not concern me much. They were strongly vouching for Maruti and Hyundai. But the opinion changed a bit with first sigh of the car. But a lot changed after a first rife/drive. They started appreciated Fiat USPs, the built quality, handling and the safety. So all is well.

Below are my views from the first drive. Am not much of a tech head, so these are in layman’s terms. Please excuse if some doesn’t make sense.

    Pros:
    • Stunning looks, Masculine
    • Great handling, responsive steering control.
    • Love the curves? Ofcourse. Don’t have to slow down, could feel G’s. My son particularly loved this
    • Everyone felt safe inside
    • Effective ABS with EBD. Already realized the importance of this (Details below).
    • Good FE. First 4oo kms(80 kms Bangalore traffic+320 on highways) returned 19.2 kmpl on MDI
    • High speed performance (Friends Punto). Yet to experience on my tusker as I am in still in run-in periods.
    • Front doors close with an European thud. But don’t feel this in back doors.

    Cons (specific to my tusker)
    • Long clutch travel. Painful in crawling Bangalore traffic. May get used to it.
    • Short range in 1st and second gears
    • Power lag in 2nd gear. Most evident with AC on.
    • Lack on under thigh support.
    • Minor rattles from the doors with windows half down. No rattles with windows full down or closed. It may increase over the time.
    • Limited rear view. Difficulties in reversing. May get used.

Trip to Chamaraja nagar forest range:
Last weekend had a trip to chamarajanagr forest range. I could really appreciate the punto for the way it handles the curves. It was very hard resisting the rpm’s beyond 2k.

On the way back I really felt the importance of ABS. As I was dring at 80 kmph along the higway, another car suddenly crossed the highway from blind spot cross road. I could able to halt within 7-8 meters range. Without the ABS I don’t think it would have been possible. Another testimonial for Fiat’s safety.

Next task to decorate with TFI stickers:
Already in procession of TFI stickers and Key chains. While the stickers are amazing I am not so impressed with the key chains. I am finding it difficult to identify ideal locations for the stickers considering mine is a Tuscan Wine. Few of the stickers might not go well with this color. Please advice with some ideas.

    Congratulation!!
So you had all kind of experience at the first drive itself.

Yes clutch travel is long, but with proper seating position and with drive for few weeks, you will get used to it. Same with shorter 1 & 2nd short gear.
Sad to see the rattle in new car, try to pin point and get it rectified in next servicing, or earlier.

I think white transparent ones should go well with Tuscun wine, you can look at this as well - http://www.teamfiat.com/threads/tea...s-spotting-thread.13135/page-5#post-841921624.

    @Manju

Heartiest congratulations. I for one would suggest you to change the naming of the car coz its a pain to read the beauty being called a tusker. Its now time to get your family and inlaws into the car more often and make them forget the apprehensions they have.

I can somewhat agree to all the cons mentioned but the driving pleasure makes one forget them. For the limited rear view visibility would suggest you to get the rear parking sensors only if you park in tight spots too often.

Happy mile crunching and drive safely.

Thanks @ghodlur. Suggestion accepted and will change the name soon. Probably the tough feel i get in teh beauty made me to go for this. Its very tough finding parking spaces in Bangalore. i am thinking to go for a rear camera to assist me on this. Are there any cons in fitting this additional parking camera kit?

@Manju Congratulations. The clutch , you will soon get used to. I am talking like a pro now :p though I have been driving for only 2 months now and I faced the same problem initially. We have the same color. Ride safe.

Ensure that no wires are cut while making the power connections. The rear parking sensors do their job just fine, you really dont need a camera. Unless you have a compatible HU to display the view or you are willing to install a separate display unit.
