Ideally ckd, but even as a cbu, the new Mazda miata-based t-jet 124 Spider could see meaningful demand in India, going up in its unqiue charismatic way against Mini, the Mercedes a-classe etc. Priced say at 30-40 lakhs ex-showroom, in the biggest 6-8 cities.

FCA must really follow up the 595 Competizione Abarth with one or three other Abarth or Fiat-branded CBU (or ideally, ckd) high-end sporty, Italian-chic etc models. They will make some money off them here for sure, and it will do the FIAT (and other high end Italian brands) here no harm at all. After all even Maserati, Ferrari, jeep and of course in 2-3 years' time Alfa Romeo will be looking to cultivate for the very longterm the Indian 'metro' audience in 'exotic' marques and models, as yet still a small but, importantly, growing, niche. Low investment, low risk, high-margins!

They may need to retail them only out of the new JEEP dealerships and one or two other flagship FIAT ones, rather than in the normal FIAT ones.

Beautiful, not retro but reusing the same original styling grammar, with a touch of seriousness/anger rather than efortless eurochic?!

If they have the spare bandwidth after or alongside the new Jeep assembly (Grand Cherokee) and local manufacture (C-suv) as well as whatever all-new models they're bringing under FIAT in 2017 and 2018 (Aegea, new Punto, new Avventura etc?) they really should do a ckd with the indian t-jet of this car!

With the new JEEP dealerships they'll have the ability to retail in meaningful numbers, say a few dozen a year, some higher-end FIAT-branded stuff too, like this 124 Spider, its Abarth avatar, the next-gen Abarth 500, the 500X (the latter can even surely be localized as well) and its Abarth version to supplement the (new) Abarth Punto....leading upto the eventual launch of Alfa Romeo from those very dealerships (that at least is the global plan: dovetail the JEEP dealers with the new Alfa-s') well-past-2018.

They CAN take a nice bite out of the significant and fast growing Indian sales of cars like the Mini-s, the Audi A3+Q3, the Mercedes A and B-classe and GLA, the BMW 1 series and X1, the Range Rover Evoque, Volvo v40 with such cars, besides the JEEPs.

If India is seen as worth an effort for ferrari and maserati (several new dealers and several more upcoming) and of course Jeep: it would be daft not to create space for Italian (i.e., non-german) premium cars at lower, more entry-luxe segments. After all eventually Jeep and Alfa are meant as an Italo-American jagalbandi to go up against the dominant oligopoly in the mainstream luxe/super-premium space right around the world, and not just in the automotive heartland of europe and the usa+japan+china.

Well I think this can be India's first Affordable sports category vehicle if FIAT can bring it in via CKD route with an Indian T-jet engine. However CBU would move it out of range for many (like the case of FIAT 500 which is a CBU) and would have the same story as the Fiat 500.

I know am asking for too much from FIAT, But FIAT please bring it to India. You have my check ready provided its a CKD.

This just bring backs the old memories of the Legendary 124 Spider... Am loving it !!!

Remember the Standard Herald? We in india have a roadster/convertible in our automotive past within memory! Why not FCA, a totally unique proposition it would be in India's 'premium' marketplace, ckd-with-indian-tjet at around the price of a Merc a-class with neither the power/pep nor the style of the 124? It will apparently not sell for too much more if at all than the t-jet multiair lounge trim of the 500X in the US or UK.
