If your concern is safety on the road then dont buy NANO . Even in city commutes its quite possible to wreck that car without a hint and yes I've seen many NANOs destroyed and kept at concorde motors itself and most of the times the reason was very silly .
So please stay away from it.

    cost implications VS safety.
Top end NANO costs close to 2.4L in bangalore (ex-showroom) so its easily going to touch 3L.
If your really price consious then you can always pick up the SANTRO (2nd hand or 1st) . Its much more value for money and a far safer car than NANO.
even EON can be an option if you really want a small car (may be it might be slightly over budget).

    The thing is safety

I have been in a nano and also posted photographs.

Who is taking notes from nano? If you are talking about local news channels, that was simply a paid rumour for publicity. Indian automotive sector is no where technologically capable to be anywhere. Indica has been awarded worst car of all times in europe, no one was there to receive the award. Did you hear any local news channel about this. Journalist abroad don't like to review Scorpion because its plastic smells terrible. Reva is most admired joke on autosites like top gear.

Its a 3-wheelers engine and gearbox with 1 more tyre attched to it, tricking people who dream a car and it is not cheap either.

I have been honest here, doesn't Nano look hideous from behind? Those tires from Chetak scooter scream cheapness from a distance. What technology are you referring here? Nano/alto/Eon all are just tricks in under-developed countries, resulting in huge financial gain for autosector at the expense of safety, media helps them a lot, have been saying that since day1.

If Nano is such an innovation, why doesn't Tata sell it out of India? Its completely personal view and you don't have to be agreed with, pls go ahead if you are considering to buy one.

    Can you explain the reasons?
Nano has passed the Euro NCAP crash test, and it is as safe as a Alto,or even a Santro.
The only advantage i see in an Alto is that it has an optional airbag.
Its a general perception of the uneducated that the Nano is a poor Man's car,its unsafe,it catches fire, one has to refuel through the front hood and what not.

Try to know Euro N cap guidelines. Its strictly for the same size of vehicle. Nano would be only safe if it collides in a Nano. Good rating in NCap means hardly anything in real life. There is no clarity what will happen when a B-seg car crashes into a truck. Well, that why I love Fiat. Their safety aspects are no hauls barred. Nano has zeo safety.

Hate these internet enthusiast, damn you google and internet, you have left no analytical skills in people:A. Its weak sheet weighing 800 kg and poor center of gravity is ignored because some news channel said so!

Dude you are the biggest troll on this forum.
If you know what i mean, you may want go ahead and read your posts again.
So you mean to say Euro NCAP tests have no credibility, and you are some sort of self proclaimed expert, who has supposedly more knowledge than those experts sitting in europe, that you can pass a car as unsafe.

ENKI - Don't generalize. The internet is like a library and Google is like its search catalog. The user chooses to read Philosophy, Physics or Pornography. Blame the user, not the library.

I am one of those internet/google users and owe most of my knowledge to that. IMHO, every car has a target segment of consumers and are built for them. No car is safe, if you look at it that way. Princess Diana died in a crash in one of the safest cars ever built.

Are you saying, that all of us should stop using the internet and go back to the stone age? Pray do tell me, what is the source of your knowledge about N CAP ratings?

Check my Avatar to understand what the internet/google has empowered me to achieve. Hope you do not have to use GOOGLE to search the INTERNET to find out what that light in the bottom left corner of the console means.

Let have a mind of our own and stop being just a repeater to media. Swift is also 5-star and so are many other death traps. A car can never protect you from bigger vehicles until unless it has an impact beam frame, it will simply be folded to an iron blob. Only VW, FIAT and Skoda cars have impact beam frames as of now, which are sold in India as budget cars.

Lets not hide the fact of ego and fear of proven wrong because someone's family is going to be inside it. My sole purpose to highlight safety aspect any potential buyer who comes across, unfortunately seems to be nowhere in the consideration.

Below is 4-star rated Nano which has collided in a pole at 60 km/hr (it can't be faster than that!).
