SX4 to come in 1.3 Diesel Variant

Discussion in 'Non FIAT Cars and two wheelers' started by kr_vasudev, Dec 22, 2010.

  1. As far as i know FIAT does not get any money on engines manufactured by Suzuki. GM used to own some part of FIAT & Suzuki when 1.3MJD FGT was designed hence Suzuki has the license to manufacture these engines free from royalty. However they don't have license to modify the engine. If they want a VGT version they need to get permission from FIAT Powertrain Technologies and pay royalty.

FIAT has no obligation to license 1.6MJD to Suzuki if they start using it in India.

Both, Fiat and Suzuki sells SX4, Fiat sells it as FIAT Sedici. Though Suzuki got different version of SX4 for India, but has right to use 1.6 and 1.9, 2.0 Diesel engine for SX4 in global market.

In that case , Fiat should bring in 1.6MJD ASAP. Already Vento TDI is doing very good
  4. @viny Suzuki sells SX4 in global market with those engines but they are sourced from FIAT, they have to pay for each of that engine where as in case of 1.3MJD FGT they don't have to pay anything to FIAT as they have license to manufacture.

The million euro question is whether the SX4 will come in FGT or VGT avtaar?

As for the Linea getting hit by SX4, I feel the SX4 is a 'just about ran' product from Maruti and a diesel engine may not be able to resurrect it. The Linea should be more scared of the Vento Tdi and the upcoming new Fiesta as both have a 1.6L unit. If Fiat knows how to play their card's right, they should wait for the Fiesta to be launched and just a day later launch the Linea 1.6 MJD to steal the thunder from Ford.

Quite right amit. Just like Fiat has provided TJet for performance seeking buyers, diesel section too has to be beefed up for guys looking for performance.

I always thought that Fiat could not bring the 1.6 Diesel engine to India cause of the quality and adulteration in the fuel available here :(
