........contd....... The Gurudongmar Lake -5 Degree C temperature, almost 17,500 feet altitude, strong chilling winds = not advisable to stay for more than 15-20-or 30 minutes there if you’ve family / kids with you. Had they not been with me there, I would have explored it further by staying there for longer time. We would have reached the lake at about 8.30 am Not really….but somewhat related. Precautions taken like gulping a Diamox tab daily helped – none of us had any breathing issue. However, after 10 minutes, my son started saying that he is not feeling quite comfortable, he couldn’t say what is troubling but just uncomfortable. My daughter who is quite bubbly otherwise was also in her shell somehow. Instead of her usual self of clicking infinite snaps of nature, she confined herself to the car after 10-15 minutes alongwith my wife and son. There were no breathing issue complaint from any of us but it raised my antenna and as a precaution, I decided to leave from there after about 20 minutes in total. About 3-4 kms down from the lake, there is an army canteen where I had delicious fresh hot Samosa and Tea. Heavy cold, early rise at 2.45 am, being at very high altitude for 20 minutes seem to have made my family a bit tired. We decided to skip Chopta Valley – in fact, we started on a diversion to Chopta Valley and then took a U turn back after 5 minutes deciding against going there.
