Hey guys. We have a 1.4 litre Petrol emotion pack. One of the first few lineas sold in the country!
It has been running well as have been taking good care of it.
For a few months now, there is a squeaking sound on starting the car in the morning after it has been washed or after it has rained. It would disappear after a minute or so.

Took it to tata motors, and they replaced the belt and the problem disappeared. Within a month it has started again. Now the sound disappears within few seconds if you rev up the engine.

No sound while driving but its always there in the morning!
    Any suggestions?

It's a common problem of squeaking belts! Check out articles where serpentine belt squeaks on cold start and disappears when engine hot.
Nothing serious if belt is ok.
Check the tensioner, get it changed as not enough tension might cause belt to slip also the tensioner bearing might have worn out.

This is a minor issue. You may have to verify:
    1. All the belts are in good condition and are in correct tension.
    2. If belts are Ok , next thing you might need to check is pulleys/bearings. They may need a replacement if found faulty.

Before you replace the pulleys do also try with lubricating belts using a bar soap.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.
The belts are surely not a problem as they were just replaced.
Could you guide me how to check/fix the tension myself? With an image if possible.
    Thanks

AFAIK old belts which have glazed appearance squeal. New belts should not squeal under normal circumstances. Very cold condition and wet condition are the two cases where belt squeals and then becomes ok within few seconds when it heats up. So don't worry if the squealing stops in a minute. Also, it should stop squealing when the ambient temperature increases or rains stop.

Maybe there is some alignment problem due to which even the new belt has worn off soon.?
Technically it might not be a big problem but sure sounds very bad :(

You cannot fix the tension yourself because AFAIK Linea has a auto tensioner.
Pull the belt and check the tension. There are various ways you can check if the tension is appropriate.
I try to pull the belt with 2 fingers and with sufficient pull the belt should move max 1 inch.
If in doubt you can tell any mech to check it should be done free of cost.

So if the belt is new and you are getting pretty continuous squeaks, first check if the pulley is a problem.

Not just the tensioner pulley, but the alternator pulley too. Check for play in pulley.
Over period of time the grease in pulley wheel dries out causing squeaks.

    If faulty tensioner, replace it!

If squeak is observed only at cold start and goes away once engine hot, better ignore it! Just inspect the belt once every week.:cigar:
