At last some value to Indian Lives and may be a level playing field for the players (safety only). But will Maruti keep quiet????

This move by govt may appear to be borne out of concern for the human lives, but it is not necessary to mean that way. It is a result of intense lobbying by the respective component manufacturers to improve their business and it is just that it has seen the light of day and just as there is a time for everything, this time has arrived too. It is purely a commercial move as and when the industry is ready to deliver, and there appears to be a need no doubt, and when the cost is accepted by the people, then resolutions are easier to pass. Parts manufacturers have a host of improvements lined up always and some require govt legislation such as this

If this rule had been brought in earlier when the vehicle industry was stagnant or negative, it would have been even more disastrous.. With the new govt in and with improved sentiment, now was the time to bring it on.

Whatever may be the reason, this particular move of making ABS and Airbags mandatory is a welcome move in my opinion. Like wise, I wish they also make the helmets mandatory for both the driver and the pillion rider for 2 wheelers as well. Everyone's life is important, not just those who drive cars.

Ramesh, let the authorities implement the seat belt rule in its entirety in the country. That alone will save huge no of lives in this poor country, and it is proven. ABS is actually a luxury being imposed on everyone. ABS complicates the braking system and moves its servicing out of the local garage and the software will be proprietory and keeping you in the ASS and rip you, is exactly what they want. Airbags will lead to very expensive dashboard change and most probably a write off. Only thing you can do with your car at the local garage will be to water wash and change wheels. You can still find drivers cheating the car by falsely fastening the seat belt without them to stop the seat belt alarm.

When these systems are available in the options , why impose them? It is like imposing iodine on the entire population with iodised salt just because there are some cases of goitre in the country. I dont want to get into that long story. Ramesh , lets see all sides:). No saints in govt and commerce these days and no free lunch too.

You still find well educated two wheeler riders wearing helmet without the strap. It is an utter waste . When will our people learn and when will the systems change.?
