What is so different from S3, seems to me there was more hype than actual product.

Samsung should have put some concentration on hardware by providing some good body panels (not the plasticy feeling) like the newly launched Sony Xperia Z or the HTC one!!
Prices would definitely sit above the current S3 model!!

But why does the phone lack premium feel and appear plasticky? or is it only me?

Here are few changes mentioned in ET -

"The S 4 comes with several new technologies intended to help users interact with the phone. For instance, the screen now senses fingers hovering just above the screen, and some applications react. The Mail application shows the first few lines of an email when a finger hovers above it in the list, and the Gallery application shows an expanded thumbnail.

Users can control some other applications by making gestures in the air above the phone. In the browser, you can command the screen to scroll up by swiping from top to bottom a few inches from the phone.

The Camera application can now use both the front and rear cameras simultaneously, inserting a small picture of the user even as he's capturing the scene in front of him.

When several S 4s are in close proximity, they can link up to play the same music, simultaneously - perfect for headphone dance parties.

The Galaxy 4 S also will include a tool that enables users to create a dividing line so part of the phone is devoted exclusively to work while the other part is filled with personal information and photos. The feature is similar to a function on the latest BlackBerry - an indication that Samsung is going after other smartphone makers besides Apple with its latest model.

The new features illustrate Samsung's drive to make its phones stand out from the crowd of Android smartphones. Jan Dawson, an analyst with Ovum, said they could be seen as "gimmicks rather than game changers."

people blame Apple for being evolutionary rather than being revolutionary of late.(revolution is not a daily or a yearly affair, it happens once in a lifetime & perhaps that has already happened with the release of iphone in 2007 as far as iphone series is concerned for Apple Inc.)
Look at android big wigs like samsung. After the release of galaxy s3 i knew that s4 is bound to be an evolutionary update than an all new stuff. (they had exhausted their rip off variation after adaptation/insipration from iphone by now, perhaps they are awaiting the next big thing thing from competitors to pick up and evolve from there).

    dont believe.. CHECK THESE OUT..

HTC AND SONY XPERIA Z seem like a better pick as far as android flagships go.

Caution :Excess hardware specs are of no use if the operating system/user experience is not fluid and simple!

Boy i loved that statement!! In a way supports my above post! ;)

Now details are coming, and seems some unique features S4 has.

10 Unique features (source - 10 Samsung Galaxy S4 features that you won't find on any other mobile)

    1. Octa-core processor:
It is the world's first smartphone with an octa processor. The new Samsung Galaxy S4 is powered by a 1.6 GHz Octa-Core CPU. The processor has four ARM Cortex-A15 for performance and four ARM Cortex-A7 to handle common workloads.
    2. Dual Camera: With this feature, you can simultaneously shoot with the front and rear cameras. When capturing moments, users can choose from a variety of frame effects which blend the two pictures naturally and also adjust the size of the small picture inside the big one. Users can select 8 different ways to combine the two photos taken by the front camera and the rear camera.
    3. Sound and Shot: Now, listen to your photos. Thsi new feature allows you to record a few seconds of audio before you capture. In this way, you can enrich any picture by adding background sounds for a few seconds.
    4. Drama Shot: It lets you take a series of pictures of a moving subject, and merge them into one picture. Thus, it allows you to see all the action in one continuous time-lapse.
    5. Smart pause: Smart pause is an eye-tracking feature, which pauses videos when it detects your head moving away from the screen. When you are watching a video, the video pauses when you look away then it starts right up again when you are back.
    6. Smart scroll: It allows you to scroll the browser or emails up and down without touching the screen. It recognises your face looking at the screen and movement of your wrist and then scroll the pages up or down accordingly.
    7. Air View: Air View allows users to hover with their fingers to preview the content of an email, S Planner, image gallery or video without having to open it. Though the feature is present in the Galaxy Note II, but in Galaxy Note II Air View allows a user to preview content by hovering the S Pen (not finger) over the content.
    8. Air Gesture: With Air Gesture, you can change the music track, scroll up and down a web page, or accept a call with a wave of your hand. Air Gesture in the Galaxy S4 allows users to navigate the phone without actually touching it.
    9. Eraser: It allows you to remove unnecessary or disturbing elements from the snap. You can save the best after erasing moving objects from 5 consecutive pictures.
    10. Group Play: With the Group Play function, users can enjoy music, photos, documents and games with those around them without even requiring a Wireless access point or cellular signal. It enables users to connect directly with others to share, play and co-create content and entertainment instantly. Its Share Music option allows users to have the same song playing on multiple phones in sync to create the best party atmosphere.

    hmm.. I think sans
    AIR VIEW &

all other features are software based and can be experienced/tried on any of the other Android flagship phones( quad core) via 3rd party apps which shall be available shortly. ( to harness the extra processing power of the quad cores pouring into the market this year) :)

-as they have said in various reviews these are just gimmicks rather than game changers.

    EDIT :
SORRY EVEN AIR GESTURE is not something new.. its already being used on a mac computer via 3rd party apps since long! yes it uses its built in webcam to trace hand gestures to play/pause etc.
its again a further extension of an existing idea! (so again one can expect that too via 3rd party apps on the playstore)
