    Manual says to apply hand brake, be in neutral and press clutch down to the floor and then start. Staying in neutral and pressing clutch is confusing to me. Extract from the manual below:

    STARTING PROCEDURE FOR
    PETROL VERSIONS
    Proceed as follows:
    ❒ ensure that the handbrake is up;
    ❒ put the gear lever into neutral;
    ❒ press the clutch pedal down to the
    floor without touching the accelerator;
    ❒ turn the ignition key to AVV and let
    it go the moment the engine starts.
    If the engine does not start at the first attempt,
    return the ignition key to STOP
    before repeating starting.

    I guess it's more of a documentation bug or Fiat being extra cautious on safety when engine is to be turned on.

    I am not sure about the step 3 if it is for redundancy or simply a documentation error. Either ways I wouldn't bother too much. If it provides redundancy it possibly couldn't hurt either.

    Redundancy in ?? and i believe its not documentation error.

    As in safety? or fail-proof? Do you have anything specific in mind? Why do you say its not documentation error? Eager to know :)

    it is for safety but dont know about how redundancy is achieved,what i have heard and read online that most of the diesel engines to be started with clutch pressed fully and the step mentioned in manual is not error.

    I think in case if the gear shift fails to disengage (neutralize) in step 2 (due to any error), the third step of manually pressing the clutch could act as redundancy or fail-safe. :wideyed:

    Alright Ganges, good that you raised it again. Here is the most logical reasoning for the engineering standpoint I found online. Credits to guy who posted it.

    //If u r in neutral gear, clutch engaged (not depressed ) your transmission input shaft is aligned with your engine (so it rotates along with engine ) and output shaft is not (so ur wheels don't rotate)
    If u r in neutral, clutch disengaged (depressed) you broken down the total connection between your engine and transmission + wheels..

    So now think which draws more power from your battery while starting..
    Engine + input shaft (clutch not down)
    Only engine (Clutch down)

    Hence It's better to depress the clutch while starting even with neutral. It makes your battery and starting motor last long! //

    By logic above it should be applicable to any or all engines.

    Its good practice to strart with clutch press
    Even
    Any one of us who dive old verna
    Same function
    With out clutch press its not start
    If some time
    Person not expert
    Half engage gear behave like natural
    Its not harmful to start with clutch pressing

    Yes Dilipbhai, what you are mentioning is about a switch which does not allow the car to start without clutch press. Which is also a good thing. Didn't know this function is there in verna. :cool: Never drove one.. :p
