    Hello all,

Now its my turn to ask for information of MP roads. I am going do the route: Indore - Bhopal- Kanha - Jabalpur - Amarkantak- Jabalpur - Orchha/Khajuraho - Bhopal- Indore during next week. My plan is to halt at Kanha, Jabalpur, Amarkantak and Orchha.

    From the information available, I am planning for the route : Indore-Bhopal - Raisen - Udaipura - Jabalpur - Mandla - Kanha - Gadasarai - Amarkantak - Gadasarai - Dindori - Bilgaon - Dumna & Panagar (Jabalpur) - Damoh - Sagar - Malthone - Lalitpur - Orchha - Lalitpur - Malthone - Bina - Ganj Basoda - Vidhisha - Bhopal- Indore.

If any member has information on this and on the present road condition, please advice. Suggest best routes.

    @Rajnish K Jain,

I was hoping to get some input from you. It looks that you are not active on this forum now.

Is there a way to send an email to @Rajnish K Jain ?

Any input on my above query from other members?

@Ravi_M You can try at HVK FB group for further information. That would be more helpful for your trip.

I believe @J Ravi should be able to provide you some pointers on this. I don't immediately remember anyone else here to advice you on the road condition beyond south. :)

    Thanks, @ramjn .

I drove to Khajuraho and Sanchi in MP in March 2016. Here are the road conditions:

Sagar>Chhatarpur>Khajuraho: very good 2-lane NH upto Chhatarpur with some bad sections thereafter.

Sagar>Sanchi>Bhopal: very good 2-lane SH all along with scenic wheat fields on both the sides of SH.

Bhopal>Indore: beautiful 4/6 lane NH/Expressway all along. There is one MP Tourism food court in between at Dodi.

Jhansi>Gwalior: very bad potholed, cratered NH, 2 lanes completed and the other 2 lanes incomplete, forcing the drivers and riders to do zig-zag with cattle squatting on the middle of the road. Worst section, I would like to avoid.

Hello All and my best wishes for this Deepawali.

I am back from my trip to east MP. It was quite smooth for major part, except two avoidable experiences.

    The Good
    -
We started on Oct 21 & returned on Oct 27 (after midnight, so in Oct 28). My Linea MJD gave no trouble whatsoever.

The route was - Indore-Bhopal-Sanchi-Vidisha-Sagar-Barman-BhedaGhat (near Jabalpur)-Bargi Dam-Barela-Mandala-Mocha (Kanha National Park)-Mandala-Dindori-Amarkantak-Dindori-Shahpur-Jabalpur-Damoh-Sagar-Vidisha-Sanchi-Bhopal-Indore. Most of the roads we good, 2-lane, metal roads with little traffic. Barman is a village on the bank of Narmada river near the crossing of North-South Corridor and Jabalpur-Bhopal road (NH12). This crossing is called Raj Marg Chauraha.

Sanchi and BhedaGhat are well-known. We visited Sanchi and at BhedaGhat, we took a cable-car ride the Dhunadhaar fall and a short boat ride to see the rocks. At Kanha, we did two evening safaris (Kanha Zone & Mukki Zone - there are 4 Zones) and saw cheetal, sambhar, gaur, monkeys, but no tiger, though we loved the forest very much. You need to book the safaris much in advance (up to 4 months). Amarkantak is the origin of two rivers - Narmada going west and Sone (of Sonbhadra) going east and joining Ganga. Amarkantak is a small place with simple amenities enough for a pilgrim place. We saw many Bengali groups there. A Holiday Home of MP Tourism is the only well-equipped place, but too costly for the place. But we enjoyed our stay there.

    The Bad-
The road from Raj Marg Chauraha to BhedaGhat (NH12) is in bad shape and should be avoided, but we had no option. It was good once we turned right from this road for BhedaGhat. Then the road upto Bargi Dam was good but narrow, but without much traffic. We were told to avoid Jabalpur - Mandala road completely as it is under 4-lane conversion, but were misguided by Club-Mahindra staff and got sent to Barela which is on this very route. It took us almost 7.5 hours to reach Kanha (about 140 km) from BhedaGhat, as there is literally no road till a little before Mandala. Madnala to Kanha was a good narrow road through jungle.

Crossing Sagar and Vidhisha was also frustrating, but unavoidable and we managed it.

    The Ugly-
While returning from Amarkantak, we took another route and reached straight to Jabalpur via Dindori. After reaching Bhopal at ~2100 hrs, we were tired, but on home-turf and felt confident to reach Indore in 4 hours safely by 4-lane route. This was not to be. We took a halt at DODI, Ashta - at MP Tourism's Midway Treat restaurant at 2150 hrs and parked the car in the parking area, but at one end, as there were many buses there. When we returned, we found the right side passenger window-glass broken and my wife's purse GONE!. This must have happened within 5-10 minutes, as there are guards and few pan-shops just outside the parking area, but no one saw anything. I am sure it must be a regular guy and known locally. We called Police and they came and escorted us to the nearby Police Station (10 KM towards Indore) and we lodged and FIR. Finally, shaken, we drove back home. We later learnt that the Ashta section is known for truck-cutting and even robbery.

We got our lessen - dont' stop at such hours and leave car unattended in poorly lit area and if possible, don't travel after dark. We were more worried about the unchartered part of our route, but we didn't face any problem there. We could have had a breakdown on Jabalpur-Mandala road (No Road), but all went well. We only had a tyre puncture near Vidisha on the first day - that's all.

I shall post pictures and route map soon.

Please spread the 'take-care' message about DODI among all visitors.

That's a good writeup on roads in MP. Definitely will be useful to make a road trip plan to MP using above information.
It would be of immense help if you put a detailed travelogue with photographs covering the areas toured.

Really bad about the breaking glass and theft at Dodi. I still remember the highway treat which you had mentioned during my cab trip I took last year from Bhopal to Ujjain temple and back during day time. It found that location to be a busy place and a nice area to park when travelling with family but still such things happens! This is definitely an alarming thing for road trips. Hope the restaurants /state govt /NHAI take some serious actions.
