    CAN IT BE DONE ?
I'm getting this replacement option offered by a local mechanic and workshop owner. Since I own one Palio Stile 2007 Aug model 1.1 petrol, would it be technically viable and possible to replace the engine with 1.3 MJD 2008 model.
The Palio-Stile where from the 1.3MJD engine is sourced has met with an accident was bought by the workshop owner.

Kindly guide in this big-decision making  with your expertise and experiences(if any).

    Regards,
    S A SHAH

Not experience as such, but it should be possible. There should be many more things needed swapping from the accident MJD spares to your Stile 1.1 body. It could be technically cumbersome for a DIY specialist, but an experienced mechanic can pull this off. Financial viability is another part.

My honest suggestion - sell the Palio and buy a Punto. It will be a big mess up if you try to attempt the conversion apart from the huge investment. The petrol and diesel cars are there for a reason.

If you have enough cash, time, patience and an Alternate car, then its technically possible. Heck, anything is possible. But, please take in to the factor that it could never be trouble free. Unless the job has been executed by the mechanic in a couple of cars already, I would advise you to stay away. Better choice would be to get a used Linea for around 4 Lakhs and enjoy a Sedan experience ( Punto too cost the same in second hand market)

    Thanking everybody for the response.

@GP Freak it will be costing around 70K without the exchange. I also own BNW T-Jet, did you not see my signature and handle in this forum.
Owing 1.3MJD Punto means same interiors more or less as that of Linea. But to have 1.3mjd in Palio gives another reason to drive in different ambeince and getup

Hope to receive more responses from experts. Would love to see Guruji (Gurujinder Singh) and other seniors to express their viewpoint.

    Be Happy & Drive Safe.

For 70k it sounds good. How good condition do you know this particular diesel engine is? Making a list of things that will go into this modification will be necessary ofcourse. I heard from a guy having Punto and Palio MJD both in family. He was all praise about Palio and said it was still much more fun to drive, perhaps more than his Punto. Also given that you have a T-Jet, you could have a nice diesel for some long journeys etc., not a bad idea as such. I am assuming ECU and all other systems needed for this are a part of this engine swap deal.

Does the owner of garage have complete parts from 1.3 MJD Stile like all pipes, wiring harness, body computer and other parts which are different between 1.1 and 1.3 MJD Stile.

Thanks, asimpleson and vijay khasa for the responses.

I don't know the over all condition of the engine, but they are claiming warranty for next 70K Kms and are also claiming to having overhauled the engine.
Pertinent to mention that this engine belonged to a Palio-Stile 2008 model that met with head-on collision with tipper-truck, though there was no impact on the engine body except the foundation was broken and the front portion of the bonnet was damaged that houses the radiators etc.

Yes, I would discuss these things with the concerned person and, kindly, help me make the list of spares to be swapped and those to be obtained for complete transformation.
I would like to keep this discussion open further for a week or so in order to obtain maximum possible information and tips.
    With Regards,

Go through other items that are salvageable. Prepare a list of items missing and interoperable between Petrol and Diesel Palio Stile. Those items that are missing can be searched for part nos. and availability with 99rpm, via email and from website. Begin work when everything crucial till last bolt is in hand or quickly sourceable. Decide quickly and begin shopping sooner. Contact Kava Automobiles, Mumbai for crucial missing items if any, they can provide both new or used depending on stock.

In no particular order I will list few items Engine mounts, Radiator (check compatibility for diesel engine), Radiator Fan, Intercooler, EGR??, coolant lines and systems, radiator fans, wiring harnesses and tubes/pipes, BCM as mentioned by Vijay Khasa, inspection of fuse boxes and fuse systems for MJD, whether changing entire fuse boxes is needed. Speedometer panel, firewall packings from Palio MJD, compare braking systems also discs etc., gearbox and transmission interoperability, gear shifter cables, clutch system, master and slave cylinders, brake booster.

Basically, prepare your own check list and tick-off items and annotate things that need checking and working on. Take help from mechanic.
Study a proper Palio MJD along-with the mechanic and the missing pieces in setup will show-up. Take snaps of various parts to see if sourceable from nearest local car spares suppliers. Certain items will be newer the better, so list you might need to list them separately, consumable for eg. oil, oil filter, air filter, diesel filter etc.

My bad,i was all in to thinking about the lengthy mod job, I totally missed it. ;-)

Btw, I suspect the accident vehicle would have been declared as total loss and bought at scrap price. You will never know the structural damage to the engine with the naked eye. The residual stress in the metal may act upon at later point of time when temperature fluctuates. Or the engine could run smoothly for eons to come. Believe ECU.Fuel Pump will come from the accident vehicle .
