12[SUP]th[/SUP] day, Sarchu was the coldest of the all the places we stayed in Ladakh. When we woke up at 6:30 am, it was damn cold. When I started PUNTO on just one crank, for 15-min idle run, it’s MID was displaying -5 and then -6 degree temperature. Everywhere on standstill water in potholes and etc, a layer of ice was formed. We started for Manali at 7:30 am. Within 300 meter, I saw a very bad water crossing with full of large and small stones. And the worst thing about that, it was on inclination also. So to cross it, I have to maintain the momentum. At first, I thought whether I it is possible to cross it without any damage. Then after few minute planning of how to cross it, I told my family members to get down of the car, and with “Jai Shri Ram” slogan, I crossed slowly moved and gained momentum while crossing the worst part of it. Even with that cautious approach, I was unable to avoid its rear under body scrapping but it was done without any harm. Bad road condition continued till the BaralachaLa top. After BaralachaLa top, we were much relieved to see the good tarred road which occasionally went bad with frequent water crossings near Darcha. Around 12 :30 pm, we reached Tandi. Now the last remaining challenge of this trip was standing tall in front of me, the much heard and notorious “RohtangLa”. We started ascend to the RohtangLa. Road from Khoskar to 2-3 km before Rohtang, was full of potholes and some slush. Thanks god, it was in much dry state then heard about it. At one point with 100 meter of slushy road, I drove with unavoidable scrapping, but without any damage. Don’t lose the momentum, but also don’t be too much fast and careless while crossing such slushy road. Because stones hidden in the mud can be potential threat to the under body of car. By 2pm, we were at the top of Rohtang. Now I have crossed the all the major challenges and the real journey to Ladakh end here. And that moment was real sense of achievement for me, for driving in such terrain with four people on board and full of luggage. Thank you so much my beloved PUNTO. We stayed for half hour there, then started the descend to Manali. Road from Rohtang to Manali was in much better condition compared to north side. We were much happy to the lush green forest after long time. We reached the the Manali around 4 PM. We stayed there for that day. From there, much awaited, run to home started without any interest in route. Thanks for going through travelogue. Please excuse me for any mistake or confusion, as it was written hurriedly in very less time.
