I'm new to automobile world, need some inputs.
Recently bought a Fiat Punto 1.2 Emotion, having fun driving.
Being a owner of Palio 1.2ELX, found Punto to be far better in terms of handling and all.
But still i sometimes feel Palio is spacious than Punto, may be my perception.

I'm planning for a road trip Pune -> Hyderabad.
Know the route is Pune - Solapur - Humnabad - zaheerabad - hyderabad.
Can someone help me with the current road conditions in between.
What is the best time to start, in order to avoid traffic?
My plan is like this, to start at around 10PM in Pune and reach Hyderabad by 10AM(considering 12hr journey).

And also what things needs to be checked before and after such long drive.
As i don't have much driving experience, plan to keep a driver.

And one more thing, this vehicle just did 1300Kms in 3 months.
The service interval for Punto is 5000Kms / 6 months.
Should i get first service done before taking this trip? (is this a good idea?)
Does taking for drive before first service has any impact on engine ?

    Help is highly appreciated.

    Manoranjan,
if you opt for day travel you will find more traffic on the road and your journey requires 12 hours,if its night travel 9 hours is sufficient with nice tea halts across zaheerabad as you will be travelling at 10 PM and i will say you halt for tea at zaheerabad only.

road conditions hyd to zaheerabad awesome.zaheerabad to humnabad u will find may path holes, not much good you should down your speed to 60 KMPH... humnabad to solapur roads little bit patchy but you can manage. Solapur to Pune road work is going on and you will find many diversion and you can expect traffic jam at anytime...

Drive safely, you will experience harsh driving on this road by others...

Be cautious on the overtaking especially the Hyderabad to Zaheerabad section.

    Happy journey!

    Thanks Ganges.

    That was a quick reply.
My plan is like this, start at 10PM in Pune, reach Hyderabad before 11AM, need to attend a event.
Take some small breaks may be at sholapur/zaheerabad.

Will update the thread once trip is done.

Any idea on the second part of the thread?

to be frank- why dont you travel in day time. its not the best roads to travel in night. heavy vehicles are galore on this road and they are always in killing mood.

doesnt matter much, i did long journeys when my car clocked 1800 KMS,but mine is diesel.(dont know about petrol engines)

Not required, eventhough you finish your round trip your running KMS will be within 5K Kms...

    Hi Manoranjan,

Congrats for your 1.2 GP. +1 to Ganges & Italia-Linea's advice on day travel. Have done this route 4 times (3 times on GP and once on my Wagon R). The section between Solapur and Pune is really bad. Heavy truck, trailer traffic and the road is under 4 laning switching between the old and the new carriageway at very short lenghts

Enjoy the journey and 1.2 is a great car on these long drives

    Cheers,

    Abhinav

Recently I did little stretch on this route from Mohol to Umarga. Heavy traffic between Mohol to Solapur due to construction of 4 lanes. Careful while overtaking on this route.

My native place is from Solapur district and I know the road the road condition till solapur. Road are pathetic and 4 LANE Road widening is in progress from Pune to Indapur so you can expect so many diversions till Indapur.

From Indapur to Solapur you have a single road with lots of traffic.

I will suggest you to avoid night travelling.

@Italina-Linea,Ganges,Kedar: Thanks for the expert advice and sharing experiences.
Asked because people used to say, its not good to push a new vehicle for Long Drives.

Changed my plan, will start in early morning may be 3/4AM from Pune, so that i can cross solapur by 8AM avoiding local traffic.
As i'm new to highway driving, hired a driver for this trip.

    Guys,

Time has forced me to do a night travel, the trip was awesome.
As you guys pointed, it has full of diversions one need to be extra careful.
And heavy traffic, once you enter Karnataka its as smooth as butter.
Roads in karnataka and andhra pradesh are far better compared to that of Maharashtra.

It's better to do a day journey on this stretch to enjoy driving and to be safe

As you cross "Welcome to Karnataka" sign board, you can feel the difference.

Punto was very good on highways, one tank full did all the work.
Started around 9PM from Pune, reached Hyderabad(Begumpet) by 6AM.
We took supper near Bhigwan, small breaks thrice for tea.

    Total Distance : 570
Mileage : 14.1 (expecting more after 1st service, fingers crossed)
    Travel Time : 9Hrs
