@PradeepM . Total expenses was 17 K. 9K for diesel and 1.6 K for toll. I got a FE of 17 for the whole trip and a more sedate style of driving would obviously give a mileage in excess of 21 with both NH7 and NH48 being awesome.

Around 4K for lodging. Due to unavailability of rooms during that time we had to book a economy hotel and a non AC room as well as that was the only option left. You can double that amount if you stay at Thangaali or similar homestays.
Besides we skipped the trekking and nature camp as well. Rest all was on fooding and miscellaneous.

With a budget of around 20 -25 K one can have a good 3-4 days trip. If willing to go for budget hotels 17-20 K is a good amount.
Depends on what you are looking for. I would advice to skip budget hotels if travelling with family.

I have had 5 trips already including Kudremukh. I have already been to Bhubaneswar and Pondicherry with both them being > 2.5 K kms trip. Besides we have been to Shrisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar which were single day trips.

I am already writing the travelogues for Bhubaneswar and Pondicherry and would soon be putting them on TFI.

Next trip should be to either to Kodai or Ooty before the summer season ends. Besides we plan to have a tour of the temple cities of TN by end of year. Lets see how it pans out.

@Kiran_Borra Thanks mate. Make sure you start very early and cross Bangalore before lunch time. With kids around maintaining good speeds may not be easy. You should plan to be @ Hassan by 4 PM.

That's a nice travelogue, very well written @nibedk
I was planning for a three day family trip (my wife and 3 year old daughter) to Kudremukh / chikmagalur region in my punto and found this travelogue of yours for getting an idea about.

How best can I plan for my trip? Kindly help me in making an itinerary based on your experience.
The plan is to travel during first or second week of Jan 17 for three to four days from Trichy, TN and back. What are the important places to visit?

@KPR . Thanks mate for reading through. Its been more than 2 years since I visited the Kudremukh and surrounding areas. I just revisited the place again reading through my own travelogue again.

It was my first trip with my "Taurus" and the memories will stay with me for the rest of the life. It was special because it was my first trip with Fiat and first long road trip(more than 1 K) in India with family India. We were in US for quite sometime and had taken multiple such trips but not in India. But the reason I will remember it is till date it has been the most beautiful place I have visited(Valparai and Andaman come close).

It would be around 700 kms from Trichy so 2 days for travel and it leaves you with 2 days for sight seeing. You can cover Kudremukh, Kalasa, Horanadu and Sringeri at best. In case you want to include Chikmaglur its better if you can add 2-3 days more and include Murdeswar as well.

You should visit Chikmaglur first( I didn't visit so can't really tell all places but should be available online easily). Then you can plan for the rest. Kudremukh, Kalasa, Horanadu, Sringeri and Agumbe is doable in 2 days. Next you can visit Murdeswar.
You can drive through the National Park(must do) and visit Hanuman Gundi Falls, Lakya Dam en route. You can see Annapoorneswari Temple (Horanadu) and Shakleshwar Temple later in the evening depending on where you stay. Let me know where do you plan to stay and it will be easier for me to let you know. If you stay either in Kalasa or Horanadu you can cover the above places in a day. The next day you can visit Sringeri and Agumbe.

Few things to take care and I would sincerely request you to follow these if you want to have a peaceful trip.

-- Start early preferably by 4-5 AM.
-- Plan to be at your destination before sunset. These are ghat roads and some sections were extremely tricky. They gave Fiats a run for their money. Besides most areas are tea estates and jungles along the road and wild life sightings are common. In case of breakdown its difficult to find a soul around. You would not want that with family around.
-- Avoid driving beyond sunset unless you know the roads or destination is less than 10-15 kms. Take known roads or roads where you see more traffic. Locals should be able to guide you. Most roads are cemented and cut tires easily if you do not drive properly or drive around the edges. They are extremely sharp at some places.
-- Well the people are nice and no danger from them at all. But if you are stuck you are at the mercy of you luck. Some places network connectivity and GPS is absolutely zero. If you get stuck in any such places beyond sunset just pray that you are on the right track.

Go through my travelogues you should be able to figure out the rest. You can PM me if you need more info.
