I have almost decided to buy the GP 90HP (tuscan wine ) though wanted Black  ...now i am also little confused with VW POLO can some tell me the advantages of PUNTO over POLO PLZ

Secondly want a clear information on the HU of the punto emotion Pck

1.can i fit an AMP directly to the HU then connect 4 compos.
    2. WL the sound quality improve if i fit all 4 compos to the excisting HU without the amp.
    3. Do i have to upgrade the tyres to MICHELIN or the stock ones are gud enough since i am changing the alloy for sure.

I think you are asking for a comparison between Punto 1.3 MJD 90 HP and Polo 1.2 Highline (Diesel) right ?

Please clarify before me (or anyone else) can elaborate on the comparison.

    Fine. Here are my points

    1. ENGINE

    Punto : 1248 cc, 4 cylinder 16 valve, 90 HP @ 4000 rpm, 209 NM Torque @ 2000 rpm

    Polo : 1199 cc, 3 cylinder 12 valve, 75 HP @ 4200 rpm, 180 NM Torque @ 2000 rpm

Verdict : The engine is at the HEART of the matter !! Forget everything else. In the Punto you are getting a more powerful (90 HP vs 75 HP), more refined (4 cylinder vs 3 cylinder) and a more torquey (209 NM vs 180 NM) engine.

    2. SUSPENSION AND RIDE QUALITY

Even Polo owners will agree here : The suspension and ride quality of the Polo don't even come close to that of the Punto. And don't believe those reviews that are done on smooth highways and well laid out roads. Ask your VW dealer to take the Polo on a rough patch of road and judge it for yourself.

Verdict : Again the Punto wins here

    3. STEERING

    Punto : Hydraulic Power Steering
    Polo : Electronic Power Steering

The EPS does not even come "close" to the HPS when it comes to response and feel !! The feedback from the Punto's HPS is superb and you will always know what the front tyres are upto.

Verdict : Punto is the CLEAR winner here

    4. BRAKING

I haven't driven the Polo extensively enough to test it's high speed braking abilities. But take this from me : the braking on Punto is excellent. Many members on this forum will testify that they have been saved from a mishap thanks to the exceptional braking ability of the Punto.

    Check this out : http://www.teamfiat.co.in/forum/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=179

Verdict : No winner since there is no comparison. But Punto braking is definitely not a weak point of the car : in fact it is a strong point

    5. WHEELS

    Punto : 195/60 R15
    Polo : 185/60 R15

Verdict : Wider tyre on the Punto. However, you may like to change to Yoko's or Bridgestone from the stock GT3's

    6. FUEL EFFICIENCY

    Punto : City FE : 15-17 kmpl, Highway : 19+ kmpl
Polo : Yet to be proven

Verdict : The 1.3 is a VERY fuel efficient unit. In spite of the weight of the car, the engine does a brilliant job of giving good FE figures

    7. BUILD QUALITY

Punto : Solid, rugged, vault like built quality. Proven in case of many mishaps and accidents.
Polo : Yet to be proven.

Verdict : Given that the Polo is not as "heavy" as the Punto, you can safely assume that it's build quality won't match Punto's. I would rate the Punto as a winner here (though I am quite sure Polo owners will disagree !!)

    8. SERVICE BACKUP

Punto : Backed up by Tata's. Good network of service stations. Leave aside all the past criticism. If we go by the recent reports (on this forum itself there are a lot of reviews), you will see that things are improving a lot.

Polo : Again : new product, service is yet to be tested. But I do have a feeling that post warranty expiration, Polo's are going to be VERRRY expensive to maintain. VW is not known to offer cheap service.

Service interval for both the cars is 15000 kms. So no clear winner or loser there

Verdict : While one is constantly improving, the other is yet to be tested. So I leave the verdict to you.

    9. AIR CONDITIONING

Punto : The E pack comes with ACC (Automatic Climate Control) and performs exceedingly well in all weather conditions (unlike the i20 which failed the Indian Summer Test)

Polo : Ridiculous is the word to describe Polo's AC. No climate controls. Medieval looking entry level AC controls. Performance is OK. If VW cannot give ACC on the top end, I don't know where they are going to give it !!

    10. FEATURES AND OTHER POINTS

The interiors, fit and finish and quality is definitely a point where the Polo will score over the Punto. But that's about it. Nothing more, nothing less. Not that Punto's interiors are bad, but Polo's are better

The in board dash in the Punto is SUPERB. The multi function display, dials and guages are very well laid out. They look even better than the Linea's. Polo's dash is very basic. I don't think the Polo has many

Punto has the fantastic Blue & Me (Bluetooth technology). Polo DOES NOT have it.

Air volume control not present in the Punto. Present in the Polo.

NO ELECTRONIC ORVM adjustment in the Polo (Yes Sir, we are talking about the top end variant here). Present in the Punto

No USB in the Polo. Present in the Punto.

Doors don't auto lock in the Polo. An important safety feature missing !! Doors auto lock in the Punto as soon as you hit 20 km/hr

OVERALL VERDICT : At almost the same price, you are getting a more powerful, more loaded and feature packed Punto when compared to the Polo. What more do I say ? The numbers and features speak for themselves. The Punto IS the clear winner !! (Were you expecting any different answer from me ? ::T )

Other members : do contribute points (for both the cars) that I have missed. I probably might have missed something obvious.

    Gr8 Comparison Amogh.
I am completely agree with all the points mentined by Amogh. Polo nowhere comes near to Punto, Punto it is complete VFM car with exceptional handling and driving pleasure.

I agree with most points. Its the nail on the head stuff. Its not because you own the Punto, but your understanding of the product visa vis the competition.!!

Amogh, you are being un-necessarily harsh to the Polo on some parameters.

While even most auto experts rate Punto ride and handling combo the best, the Polo isn't far behind. Being a Euro car, it's safe to say that the ride quality will be VERY good. Handling is something that Fiat's have always had an edge over VW's unless you bring in the GTI's into the equation. Even then, Fiat has the Abarth as an answer to the GTI's. In Europe, VW's are considered to ride better then handle. Safe to say the Indian VW's will also be better rider's then handler's. Still, I would say, most people wouldn't know the slight advantage Punto has over Polo in the handling area.

Agreed although we are lucky that the Punto here comes in HPS. The Euro Punto has EPS and from the review's the only complaint auto expert's have even for the Abarth Punto's is the EPS!

It's a VW, Amogh. There should be a barely noticeable difference between the two cars on this front.

I am going to disagree here. I feel the Polo will hold up better then the Punto in the long run. VW's are well known for build quality both outside and inside. When it comes to build quality, I would rate German's better then Italian's any day.

I think VW will give ACC in the Vento. Maybe only in the top end Petrol and diesel! I agree that the Polo is bare bone's car for the price VW is asking for it.

I agree. I would pick the Punto FGT 75bhp over the Polo diesel for the engine & features and at the price point at which it's offered. Between the Punto VGT 90bhp and Polo 75bhp, there really is no contest! Punto all the way!

What's shocking is the absence of steering mounted control's on the Polo. Come on VW, even the normally stingy Honda is offering these on the ANHC and Jazz now!

Doesn't the A-Star Zxi too have these?!
