Discussion in 'Hangout' started by Ravi, Jun 25, 2010.

  1. petrol prices increased, diesel, kerosene, LPG to follow.... petrol price will be increased in rupees and when time comes for reducing, it will be in paisas... I dont understand the logic behind it.... :(

I don't wanna start a political war here , but you do know that India is a country dependent upon oil imports. And global fluctuations in oil prices do have an effect on oil prices in India.

You cannot go on blindly subsidising things. The oil companies debt makes Mount Everest look like a mound of sand. It's that big. The Government has a limit to subsidize things. Beyond that it'll end up broke and go back to 1991 when we were reduced to mere beggars.

So saying that the Govt is blind and doesnt give a shit is a really ignorant statement. As if they are increasing prices just for the sake of it.

It is a necessary evil and has to be done.

Ok gurjinder, I can take the international oil prices, rupee depcreciation & all that but what about the approx. 60% tax on Petrol ?

All the bigwigs have diesels SUV's which are being directly subsidised by the govt. in the name of agriculture/public transport. Why is the govt. shy of raising excise duties on these vehicles ?

all petrol owners, bikers should start a nation wide strike on these levies Govt should reduce. Forget the TJet owners or Skoda TSI owners, I see daily labors masons who use two-wheelers are being hit hard with petrol hikes.

The issues of taxes in developing countries is a touchy one and can be settled only over a couple of beers. :p

Most of the big SUV's are already given, rather awarded a 100% duty on their prices. That is the only reason why the Landcruiser 200 sells for 80 lakh in India. So, most big cars are already well taxed.

Actually Govt should be out of business of controlling the price of petrol/diesels etc. Let oil company decide what price they want to keep, and make it competitive.

Govt. is actually fooling us by saying Oil mktg. companies are bleeding, they could easily stop their bleeding by lowering the taxes to a acceptable level , For diesel cars & SUV govt.can hike excise duty by a marginal amount , to adjust fluctuations in international crude pricings.
But instead govt. wants us to bleed.

Govt doesn't have its own source of income, all money comes from what we pay as tax.
If they remove taxes on oils, those money needs to come from somewhere, may be higher income tax. I don't think we will be happier in this case also.

Even all so called subsidiary, govt provides, all are our tax money.

Means, anyway, we only have to pay the money, methods can be different.
