Thanks for the details and which Phillips bulb would you suggest or the one on your ride?

There's lot of 100/90 in their website.

Philips rally 100/90 seems to the the best bet , though essential vision 100/90 is also there. rally costs 160/ bulb. The roots headlamp wiring harness can be bought as a kit which includes the whole wiring , 2 ceramic holders, 2 fuses, relay and costed me 720/-. its a plug and play kit.
  3. Does it not blacken the headlight unit plastics due to heat ? I remember seeing such statement in TBHP.

i've never been a big fan of philips bulb. they seem to be the "shakti kam, gussa zyada" kind of bulbs.
i've been sticking to osram all weather prismatics since a donkeys years. they come in both the 100/90 and 100/80 spec and i use the 100/80.
prismatics put out a nice yellow light which is not stinging to the eyes and lets you see the road ahead of you very clearly. especially useful during those dicey monsoon nights or those winter darknesses when suddenly you hit a pocket of fog on a ghat road. they cost around 300 bucks a pair and last long, dont even fade the sealed beam covers.

Love thy car as thyself !
And man I really enjoyed this part "managed to get out around 10 million tonnes of dust and I think a couple of dinosaurs, 13 cows, one mule, 3 dogs and 1 sheep out of there"
Keep driving and keep posting, we all are here reading your posts.

    hi gaaij
phainally managed to make it to ahmedabad.
had managed to damage my alloys at some point of time going through bad roads.
got the alloys repaired (two of them were badly damaged) and the tires rotated, balanced and aligned.
also bumped up the petes box to +1 settings. the car feels a lot more punchy now and the 120 mark comes up just like that. slight black smoke under hard acceleration. mileage hasnt gone down but the engine noise is slightly more.
Round trip was managed in a full tank of diesel. managed to keep the speedo at the 100 kph mark while going and under the 130 mark while coming back.
the only downside was bad diesel during the tankup. the car ran rough while going but smoothened out after adding the wuerth diesel additive.
    good fun all in all.
