    Hi All,

Need an advice here. My brother is looking for a car, and it is completely on me to decide . 1st thing is 1st, I'm consciously avoiding FIAT (even though we have 4 Punto's and 1 Linea in our family) for obvious reasons. If FIAT had a better presence, then it should have been 6th FIAT in our family. But no, this time strict NO. (even I dropped Punto to TJet upgrade plan)

We have short listed TATA Nexon P XZ+ and i20 D Asta (no Nexon Diesel, as it is 1.04lacs costlier than petrol). His monthly usage is generally in petrol category.

I try to put few points here,

    Nexon P XZ+:
    ------------
    - New breed, new generation, new style for TATA car with huge improvements overall - be it ride, handling, gear shifts, clutch, features etc.
    - TATA service (in Bangalore its generally good) is bit cheaper than Hyundai (according to data I gathered from my friends).
    - Excellent ICE. Difinetely lot better than Hyundi (my personal openion).
    - 3 driving modes are really usefull (kind of new) feature
    - Good ground clearence (matters for us)
    - claimed mileage - 14kmpl
    - test drove both Petrol and Diesel back to back. Even though Diesel rocks, Petrol is no-less fun either.
    - Styling hit or miss- but we like it anyway.
    - OTR - 10.45lacs (no bargain)
    - Decision from the heart.

i20 D Asta: Not much to add as everyone aware
    ------------
    - Overall felt premium than Nexon.
    - better after sale/service network.
    - Good diesel engine driveability.
    - service costs might be higher, but has better reach.
    - Face lift on the way.
    - OTR ~ 10.18 lacs (can bargain for year end discounts)
    - decision from the head.

    least bothered things:
    -------------------------
    - petrol or diesel - monthly running is in Petrol category
    - resale value , as we intent to keep it for at least 6 years.
    - mileage (for occational long trip, we don't mind burning pocket).
    - Safety (as both are adequately loaded)

Here my worry is, if his usage is like mine (53k in 8 years), that mean car would be idle for most of the time. How good is it for Diesel cars? Also by default Diesel service cost is bit higher than Petrol.

Other car considered was Polo TDI, but its maintenance cost is pretty high. Also Ameo which is much powerful, is bit cheaper than Polo TDI, but we don't like its looks. So decided not to consider VW. And thats all, - i'm not looking for any other brand/car.

BTW, i'm using 8 years old Punto 1.4. Its running as good as ever, currently i don't have any intention to change. If I want , then somehow I'l stretch my budget and go for COMPASS:).

I never had dilemma like this, even purchasing for myself. :p (for me it was either Punto or no, 8 years back ). So I need opinions here.

    Thanks in advance :)

My vote would be for Nexon @sreedhara_bj . As requirement is for banglore, extra GC will be handy. Plus, its a new product and recent Tata designs, interior quality, QC are quite good. Other positives are already mentioned by you.

On a different note, my cousin is also sold on Tigor P and looking to buy the Top end. Tata designs are becoming desirable now and not just utility. Ask me, I own a 15 years old 1.4l Petrol Indica.:D

I would have loved to recommend Nexon (much better product from TATA stable); but I would stay away (for atleast a year) from new launches; but then its just me.

Well; diesel shouldn't be ur preferred choice (as per monthly running); but if it is; do add FIGO (D) to ur list.

For BLR; I would recommend an AT (P) and b/w Hyundai & TATA; i'll pick Hyundai

I would go with Nexon petrol. After the demise of ecoboost it is the only manual turbo petrol (other than Fiat) available and it is quite fun to drive. I am not a fan of Nexon's look though. If you are happy with the looks then Nexon is a good deal.

If automatic is what you want get a GT TSI.

Nexon - go with your heart.
Very positive feedback from colleague. The drive modes being his fav. Ride quality, engagement and stability being others.
Checkout the AMT as it may be boon in the traffic.

I would also like to stay away from Nexon as it's new to the market. Personally for me it just looks like a grown up indica vista.
I20 active with increased GC seems to be a winning choice in terms of everything but driving delight. But doesn't an ecosport fall in this price range ?

Thanks for the suggestions. I have one more week to decide :) But one thing here - we are not looking for automatic since its his 1st car. Also city driving will be less .

Thanks. Only problem with the Tigor is - it might become taxi segment car. Its on the similar path as that of Zest.

Thanks, No we didn't consider the Figo. Somehow we don't like it :(

Thanks, yes this little 1.2 petrol is quite FTD (not in comparison with Diesel though). 3 driving modes are real joy. If you want to drive sedately, put it on to Eco mode, thats it. You will get higher efficiency as well. Modes can be changed in between as well, its real boon. Say - if you want to overtake, put it on to Sport mode, then come back to Eco :D

Thanks. No we are not looking for AMT as of now.

Ecosport costs min 1 lac more. So its out of budget + some how we dont like Ecosport (yes its strange but none of us liked it).

I'l update you guys once final decision is made.
    Thanks.

    Hi All,

Finally decided yo go ahead with heart, Nexon. Booked XZ+ Petrol, Glossy Grey colour today.
We will be taking delivery by Jan end, but for price protection, we have to pay full amount once vehicle is allotted (which is hopefully last week of Dec).

Congratulations for the Nexon ! Do a thorough PDI as soon as you get hold of your car.
    All the best.
