Hi. I am hearing some sound from front left tyre area and I am not able to locate the source while driving. It sounds like "chat" "chat" every second. Where can I take the car for checking? Is it safe to take for tyre checking to road side repair shops? Has somebody else experienced this?

Does it sound like any metal part is involved? If so TASC is the only place to go.
Check the tyre thoroughly, check if the mudflap or something is touching the tyre. It is difficult to diagnose these issues online.

i don't think a metal part is involved. It appears for every rotation of the tyre. Incidentally, the red box normally recognized as state transport bus had kissed the part covered by the tyre so mud flap touching is a strong possibility. However, there is ample area between the mud flap and the tyre. I would visit a local garage for consultation.

Check the mud flap. In my car TASC guys fixed it with only one screw/nut. I got bended in the inner part and was touching the tire. I am going to remove it after monsoon or I'll try to procure the original mud-flaps.

Ramesh , couple of days back i too heard this kind of sound from rear left tyre .. turned out there was a metal nail embeded in the tyre ... once i removed it there was no sound .. it can also happen if small stones are embeded in the threads ... try to remove all stones from grooves and also check for nails .. once done try driving and see if noise persists.

    +1 to what atul said..
Its always a nail hitting the road on every revolution...

check all 4 tyres for a safe side... you might find punctures on some of them as well.. BTW the sound might be coming from other tyre, if not the FL side..

As rightly pointed by Atul. Its more likely a nail on the tyre.

I had a similar experience last week, when i could hear it with windows down. It was a small but fat head nail making the "chat " chat " noises .

Note to self: Get the windows down to check noises periodically

Thanks Atul, Paritosh, Rajeev, Roy, Chaos. I would go for a long drive during Ganesh Festival so it is prudent that I check all the tyres before this. Also, any idea where in Pune can I get the tubeless puncture kit?
