MY FABULOUS FIAT LINEA

    Sixth Service @ Ramkay FIAT, Chennai

    My fabulous FIAT Linea returned back home yesterday afternoon after enjoying her stay at Ramkay FIAT, Chennai, from 17 - 20 July 2013 for the sixth service costing rupee-symbol.gif 31,779, which I paid by my credit card without any extra charges. :) All the belts, clutch kit, brake pads/discs, oils, fluids, filters, link rods, swinging arms, spark plugs, etc., were replaced. Some of the wear-and-tear parts replaced like belts, clutch and spark plugs, have still considerable life left in them. But, I insisted on changing them as a preventive maintenance step to ensure peace of mind. Thankfully, all the parts and consumables were readily available at Ramkay FIAT.

    Ramkay FIAT is very spacious. They have 22 bays. With only FIATs coming for servicing and repairs, it results in huge per-capita availability of space for my Linea, which is a major attraction for me as compared to other cramped FASS. Even Concorde Motors, Mysore Road/Dairy Circle, where my Linea was serviced five times, were cramped due to presence of Tata Motors cars. Even their customer lounge used to be full most of the times. My Linea was attended to by Arun, SA, who kept me informed at every stage of the servicing. I visited on 18 July 2013, inspected the works and clicked some photographs.

    I had only one complaint: the horn pad was working only on one touch-point and not on others. This was repaired and now the horn pad is touch-sensitive at all points! I requested Arun not to paste the Ramkay sticker on the rear window. This was also done!

    During the check-up camp, which my Linea attended on 13 July 2013, I was assured that discounts for spares/consumables/labour would be extended during my Linea's servicing. True to their words, 10% discount was given on the spares and consumables and 20% for labour, which resulted in major saving. Also, I observed that the cost of most of the spares and consumables replaced was far less, even before discounting, than the ones charged by Concorde Motors, Mysore Road, two years back. The cost charged was less than the ones printed on the carton. Perhaps, FIAT must have reduced the costs. The labour charges also appear very reasonable. I observed that washing and cleaning were separated from the paid servicing. When asked, Arun confirmed that it was as per FIAT directions. I was charged for consumables, but not for on-board scanning and windscreen washer fluid.

    On the whole, I am fully satisfied with the service rendered by Ramkay FIAT. :)

    Thanks Raviji for sharing in detail the price list of spares, it should he helpful to others and even me to cross check before paying the bill.I have changed the battery, have you?.My linea has done 60k kms and I thought the scheduled service is the 5th, but you have mentioned that it's the 6th.Your posr was very useful in letting me the list of parts to be changed after 4 years.Does the brake pad need replacement for the second time, do others too change it every 30 k kms?.thanks

    No. Not yet; still running on OE stock factory-fitted battery only. :)
    Yeah, it's the sixth one as sometimes the one-year limitation came into force. Please see the last Excel sheet image for details.
    Brake pads are wear-and-tear item, which depends on the driving style and pattern of usage. In my case, my Linea mostly drives on the highways than inside the cities. So, for my usage, I changed the brake pads for the first time at 35 k km, and then, now. Some change the pads earlier too if the brake usage is more, which may be due to intra-city driving.

    J Ravi sir, yesterday when i was at KHT spares counter to check for camshaft order, i had noticed in the system, that there was a discount mentioned for all parts. discount was of the order of 15-20% roughly, as i did not calculate the exact figure. when i asked Glen what is this discount, he said that Fiat is giving it currently for all parts.

    You are one of lucky person that your Fiat Lenia is going well. But for me the same model I brought in my 2010 and just become mad for solving one after one problem.the details is given below :

    My Linea is 2010 Model and now stands out of two years warranty, but my car is well under 26-months extended warranty. One of the initial issue was that horn use to stop working, and during service the service team use to open the horn switch and clean up the rust on copper switch plates. The job was done during third free service dt. 16.06.2012 when my car was well under 2-years warranty.
    At any point of time the dealer ( R.D.Motor,Kolkata) has not told that the total horn switch pad got rusted and needs immediate replacement. As usual again the switch stopped working, I took it back to service center, and this time also some short of cleaning done and made the horn operable temporarily instead of going in to the actual root cause of the problem.
    Now during paid service on 18.06.2013 in Garodia Motors,Kolkata, I told again about the horn problem. This time also I have not been told about the damage of horn switch pad. The service team again clean the horn with WD-40 rust cleaner( which is not supposed to be used for the cleaning purpose of copper wire circuit in the horn switch pad).
    After this paid service ,I found that whatever problems were told in the job card has not been attended. But my car got delivered merely by Garodia Motors to me. After few days of this service I found that my horn got totally out of order and car started severe sound from the front side. This problem was also told during paid service. But the work shop did not checked and during delivery they told it is due to tyre unbalance and will go after wheel axle balancing.
    I then lodged complaint to Fiat Customer care mentioning all the incidents happened with my car. Now as per advice of Fiat Customer care and their intervention towards my car problem, I again visited the workshop Garodia Motor, Kolkata on 06.07.2013 for rectifying the above mentioned problem.
    Now the works Manager Mr. Sanjoy & Mr. Pradipto took personal initiative to look in to the matter seriously after discussion with Fiat Customer care Executive Mr. Hansal. Here I came to know the actual problem of the Horn switch Pad and they says that the entire copper wire circuit has caught rust at places where its open. Hence on pressing the switch the circuit doesn’t get complete and horn is not activated. They told also that this is not a repairable parts and needs immediate replacement to operate the horn properly. It has been also told that it a integral part of AIR BAG and can not be replaced separately. So the total system along with Air Bag assembly to be changed and the cost involvement is above Rs.20,000/=.
    Fiat India sell me a car, with a poor quality copper component, which goes bad in less than 2 years. It is either the design is bad or the quality inspection is carried out on spares used in the car. So it requires replacement of the whole unit within three years.
    Now if the problem would have been addressed at the right time when my complaint lodged during 2-years warranty period then the same defective item would have been replaced by the manufacturer free of cost as it was under warranty period. But the dealer intentionally not informed me about the actual problem because if the same is replaced after warranty period then the dealer will charge the money from me for the defect spares they change after warranty period.
    It is really shocked to me to see that whenever Fiat Customer executives involved in the problem the dealer took all shorts of pain to rectify the problems or else they just make foolish the customer and snatching hard earn money.
    Any way this is the most annoying part. If it requires Mr. Mangesh to get involved in each and every customer's issues then it is really sad.
    Fiat like company sell me a car, with a poor quality copper component, which goes bad in less than 2 years. Because of Fiat’s bad design, poor quality of the product / copper circuit layout design it requires replacement of the whole unit.
    I am attaching herewith the job card and invoice regarding my complaint against the Horn not working, when my car was under warranty period.
    Hope I should get help form Fiat Service team by providing a Goodwill warranty towards solving my car problem through their dealer at Kolkata. I am really thankful to Fiat Authority who has so far extended their hands towards solving many critical & severe problem of my car( viz.AC problem, ABS collapsing problem, Tyre disengaging from position during first day ,AC modifications, Ac duct problem and so on).
    If Fiat authority goes my posted problem they will definitely realize that each and every problem was timely posted to the dealer during servicing. But it is the dealer negligence that they have not attended those problems timely by their own. The ultimate results is that hues amount of money I had to spend for solving each problem of my car by the dealer at no fault of me.
    A customer is not at all responsible for poor quality of parts and poor design because it is Fiat India who actually designed the same. Otherwise how does become the system like ABS, Horn switch pad, AC system become totally collapsed within two years of running a car. My car runs only 27000KM and definitely it is a personal car.
    My car is under extended warranty by Fiat Global Administration, Gurgaon,Haryana. In the warranty manual the covered parts written Horn under electrical system and Air bag ECU under Air Bag system. If Horn is a integral part of Air bag system then I should get the damaged part replaced under extended warranty.

    Being mechanical Engineering Background, I must say that in my 32 years rich driving experience such type of poor design car at least I have not seen. Each and every spare parts are spurious and failed on regular basis. I hope Nobody from Fiat India authority has even checked the car from quality point of view. I repeat that this car is very unpredictable one and any thing can happen during your driving. So be careful while you are driving this car. As if in the first day all major studs of front real wheel got sheared or opened from the position then any body can imagine how PDI testing is done in the Fiat Workshop before delivery a new car to the Customer after making the car just Death Trap.
    One more incident happened to me while I driving my car in the high way suddenly front rear while got jammed and panel shows ABS system error. It is my good luck for both the time that due to very low speed of my car I along with my family saved.
    This type of incidents if happened in Foreign country with any customer then the dealer along with the Car manufacturer top bosses would have been by this time in Jail.
    I am sharing some of the experiences with photograph for realizing the matter by others. So that customer at least understand what type of car Fiat is producing and merrily selling in the market.
    At last but not the least no spares available in the dealers service centre and also customer is facing lots of trouble to get damaged spares either from Extended warranty party or from the Fiat authority during warranty.
    Fiat should check why each and individual critical spare parts are failed very frequently with in three years. I have not hard that the systems like ABS, Horn switch pad, Shock absorbers, Link rod, AC system, Blue & me , Body painting failed within three years in any good manufacturer cars in this segments available in India.

    Your car is another extreme of Ravi sir's experience.

    It's is time for me to stop treating my Linea's issue as a part of papering her and think about it at a different level?

    @Kingas, did you not see how J Ravi is maintaining his Linea beautifully and with a lot of care?.... the replacements are done even not needed. This way car will always behave in an excellent response to your utmost happiness.

    @Shikhar, don't worry at all..! Future does not prevail..... it is always the present moment.... you have a best piece of a car in your possession, so maintain it well and enjoy the life.

    @ J Ravi, good piece of information for keeping FIATs in good health. At our place Srinagar,J&K, the problem is that FIAT-exclusive-dealership is still not
    taken by any one
    and the service by TATA will be rendered till Sept-2013 only.... spears not available at all, even my-Palio is facing this issue.
