The short gears should actually make your life easier in the city, not painful. I understand that the 1st and 2nd gears are too short but you will soon get used to it. You can actually drive in the city in 3rd gear without much of gear changes.

I'm all ears - how do the short gears make my life easier in the city? I am sure I will get used to it but if you know the way around, that would make my life easier right away.

Think you're trying to change gears too often, MJD has enough torque to pull easily from lower speeds. Slot her in second and take your legs of the A pedal, she won't complain. Same for all the gears, you would need some time to understand this though.

I am talking about bumper to bumper traffic. Can I stop the car in 3rd gear and then just release the clutch without changing to 1st?

You travel in 2nd gear in Bumper to bumper traffic. All said & done for 3 rd gear will be applicable in 2nd gear. Any car will make you change gears like anything in bumper 2 bumper & among all of them, Punto/Linea will facilitate the least changes in gear. Dig it to know it by yourself. There are very limited things that we can suggest in written. & specially such stuff. You keep mentoring yourself & find a way of your own.

But remember one thing, If some one is changing gears in Punto like he does for other cars in bumper to bumper, he is punishing his FE, gear box, engine & himself because there is so much of torque on offer in MJD's@any-speed@any gear.
You need to research to find it out yourself, practice it & engrave it in your driving style so that it comes natural to you real time. These cars demand some R&D as they are a total different drive than the usual stuff, but once you study them, they will keep rewarding whole life.

Yes, but I don't recommend this. You could use the second gear for this.

I don't know anything about a Fiesta and if the gears are better there or worse.
The mileage for the 150 Km that I have driven so far is around 18. I will try to drive around in 2nd gear next time in B2B traffic.
Your mileage seems very low, how old is the car?

Manilruben, That's an Armageddonian FE that you are maintaining in 90 HP. I have been caught in standstill traffic for more than 45 mins with AC on still it manages over 16kmpl in all city traffic, the worst i remember for 150 KMs round trip everyday.
When i have driven all aggressive with my toe & ankle hurting because of the throttle job for 150 KMs, even then it has never been under 17.5 km/ltr.
How did you manage to achieve such dream shattering FE of 11.5 km/lts in your 90 HP:wow. That has to be featured inside "Limca book of records" at least if not "Guinness" for 90 HP::OO.
