    I was in Mumbai yesterday. It was pouring cats and dogs. But what struck me the most was deteriorating conditions of Mumbai roads. Here was my route and roads log

    Wakad (Pune) : Mumbai-Bangalore bypass is in good shape.
    Expressway : 99.9% percent butter smooth road. Is patchy near Khandala and Lonavala exits.
    Navi Mumbai to Vashi Creek bridge : There were few potholes here and there but could be easily avaoided for a smooth ride.
    Vikroli-Jogeshwari Link road : Horrendous road with equally horrendous traffic situation. I think traffic and road quality was interlinked. What is BMC /MMRDA digging for Harappa / Mohenjo-Daro remains using World Bank money ?
    SEEPZ : Useless roads. I mean there were craters not potholes.
    Vile-Parle : Good roads, crowded.

    Oh I really miss the good old Vile-Parle of my childhood, small lanes , sparse traffic where I could cycle my way to my school . Now I fear to even cross the roads.

    To put it in perspective: there is a road amongst potholes/craters and not the otherway around!!

    It takes me an hour and a half to travel a distance of around 14 kms every single day, and that's distance to office one way. Sigh!

    @Vroom : WOW !! that sucks royally.

    90 minutes for 14 kms : average speed of 10 km/hr ??

    Maan : I love Pune : my office is 12 kms from my house. Takes me 20 mins in the morning and 35 minutes in the evening

    Yeah .. I used to feel Pune must have worst roads and traffic. but Mumbai took the cake. I used to live in Bangalore for few years. So my rating for traffic and road condition from worst to the best would be Bangalore > Mumbai > Pune .
    In Pune I travel 17kms everyday and takes 30 minutes in the morning and 35-40minutes in the evening.

    Yea Amogh :cry: I kind of thought that this is because of the rains, but even on those days when its not raining, its the same case.

    You are correct 10 km/hr and for the last fill I got 10.5 kms per litre.. doubly sad man!!

    The worst road in mumbai is the western expressway. It's all crowded for life n death.Stones flying here n there, two of em have hit my car :A .Heavy vehicles have no sense at all speeding on the right lane even rickshaws.I find eastern expressway much better than western. Can hit decent speeds upto 120kmph and till today have not sighted any flying stones ::D The award for the worst roads shud go for the andheri-kurla road also called the airport road. This road forever is under cdonstruction and dug up god knws what they dig and find out or is a treasure hunt goin on ::D Overflowing manholes are a sight over here with water all over the road and to top all of this metro train track is under construction.God save the people who travel daily from these roads :uh

    Agreed. During my visit to Mumbai in March 2010, my MapMyIndia navigator guided me through this road from Andheri East to Marine Drive. I hated to drive on this road not once, but many times to and fro. However, during my recent visit in November 2010, my navigator, updated with the latest map, recommended Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road from Andheri East to Marine Drive, which was a pleasant experience. I did not drive on the dreaded Andheri - Kurla Road at all during this second visit, thanks to the updated map!

    Mumbai Roads sucks! I'm happy to be in Navi Mumbai and more lucky to have office in Anvi Mumbai itself and feel luckiest as I could drive in my Punto daily. It's 22km one way and I take 30-40 min.
