It should be a normal clatter, should go away after the first service

    Change the fuel. Or

Go at TASS. Connect the ECU Examiner for Knock Sensor error.
In FIAT ECU,some errors are bypassed from Engine Light.
Some times Unknown error is in ECU

If everything is alright, wait for 1st Service.

It is definitely diesel clatter as you say it reduces after warming up. ( Do you hear this clatter even when the volume is above 5 if yes then get the noise checked from T.A.S.S.)
The sound will reduce as you clock more km's on your odo.
This noise is more in 1300-1600 rpm range.

thanks vijay, did you face a similar noise when your car was new? if the music system is not the sound is not audible. i have to shut down the music system to hear the noise

Italia- Linea the diesel clatter will always be there but the clatter noise will come down after clocking more km's.
Do you drive your car regularly. I notice more clatter when I drive the car after 3-4 days gap and it reduces as the engine warms up but is always present.
It's nothing to worry about all diesel cars in market have this noise.
You would get used to this sound as you drive the car more.

If the krr-krr sound is more on steering movement, get checked the power steering assembly as well.

no, its nothing related to steering movement. its something related to diesel clatter on the engine. what i wanted to know is, have people faced similar noise when their MJDs were new.

@amit : yes !! there is clatter at low rpm's

and i think the low temperatures that we are witnessing right now in pune are contributing to the clatter.

5-6 kms is perfect. That is precisely the amount of "distance" required (in city running) to get the engine to temperature (read : temperature needle at half way mark)
  10. Re: Noise in Punto 1.3 MJD

    Deepak,

Noise is at the lower side in Punto 90hp and 76hp feels louder once you touch 3000 rpm, it has it's root in shorter gearing coupled with exhaust system used by FIAT.
if they had given little taller gear ratio then what is now, these sounds wouldn't have been surfacing at speeds like 100-120 Kmh.
