Millionth Jeep is a milestone

    Lets :clap Chrysler's latest achievement in producing 1M Wrangler Jeep.

    Making 1 million of anything is quite an achievement. But 1 million Jeeps is truly special.
    It happened Friday at Chrysler Group's Toledo Assembly Complex in Ohio. As soon as the 2013 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 10th Anniversary Edition rolled off the line, there was a big celebration.
    Symbolizing the cooperation that made it happen, the black Jeep was driven by a Chrysler Group vice president, Mauro Pino, and the United Auto Worker's Jeep Unit chairman, Local 12, Dan Henneman.

    Bravo Chrysler, Bravo. Keep going Chrysler (FIAT). Rock on! Hope to see similar high achievements in INDIAN market too.

    FCA hit a little over a million sales for all of 2014.

    Well, they've already hit a million by the beginning of November, up 22odd% from last year, and say they expect to easily achieve the target of 1.2 million JEEPs sold worldwide by the end of 2015. The Renegade, made in both melfi Italy and Pernambuco Brazil has a lot to do with that but consider this for 2016+2017:

    new plant producing the Cherokee in China, localized, at lower prices (behind tariff walls). Renagade too scheduled for localized China production next year. India for localized c-suv production in 2017. brazil to also see production of the same c-suv (an all-new model).

    Plus: all-new Wrangler in 2017. Plus: first ever Wrangler-style small 4x4 lifestyle pickup truck for the us market as well.

    They are, then, shoe-in imo for a 1.5 million rate, AT LEAST, by mid-2017, when the chinese, indian and brazilian plants's models are all out and firing even-half-well in their respective domestic and export markets.

    Very splendid of and for FCA! Marchionne has said repeatedly that JEEP is THE fca 'global brand', much more so than either Fiat or, later, Alfa Romeo, after all.

    Happily and hopefully for fca fans in india: Mike Manley the ever-so-successful global as well as US head of Jeep as well as the us-centric Ram brands is also: the head of FIAT in the asia-pacific (including India).

    JEEP will be 75 years old this year as a born-global (thanks to WW2 and the allies victory in europe, n africa and china+india) brand and pioneer of the automotive genre known as 'suv' as well as 'luxury large suv' as well as 'off roader' as well as 'retro suv' etc.

    It will, then, be launching in India in its milestone year.

    JEEP has blown away its own targets for 2015 (global sales) of 1.2 million sales, with ease. A record year, with SO much further-growth baked-in already, given (a) the new plants in brazil, china and india (b) the new c-suv coming up in end-2016/2017 (c) new Wrangler, new Wrangler pickup, and new Range Rover-competing Grand Wagoneer luxe 4x4 7-seat suv, by 2017/2018.

    A lot of the JEEP incremental growth is 'white space' and conquest growth, even in the USA but esp in Europe, Brazil/LatAm, Japan, and going forward: China+India(in small numbers initially.)

    JEEP, unlike any other global brand, has tons of room to grow (profitably) EVEN if global and/or regional macroeconomic conditions detriorate a lot further.

    Congratulations to FCA and Marchionne+Manley etc. Go JEEP in China (2016 onwards, local manufacture) and in India too (2016-2017....)!

    FCA marketing genius Olivier Francois has done it, in the usa, again.

    FCA has become synonymous as far as the marquee event on American live-tv and tv-advertizing- goes: the Super Bowl (american football). At least as far as car companies go.

    Year after year, since the famous 'Eminem' or 'Imported from detroit' ads a year after the merger in 2009/10, an ad that truly kickstarted the 70 month-long boom in fca sales and marketshare growth for fca's near dead american brands, FCA has consistently followed up each year of the much watched and followed advertizing 'oscars' that is the super bowl with toprated and most-evocative and most-spoken-well-of and most effective ads.

    This year they had 2 60 second, long ads (an fca and O Francois speciality). Both for Jeep.

    One a quasi- or pseudo-philosophical, 'deeply' thoughtful ad (cinematic), an o francois and fca usa speciality, and the other a music-based, music-video style montage (also an o francois signature: he was a music record company guy before he joined Fiat, long before the merger.)

    30000 jeep owners and collectors in the usa gather at Toledo, Ohio, Usa, the 'home' of Jeep, to celebrate (as if it were a civic event, which it of course is for Toledo) JEEP's 75th anniversary.

    Of course, in a very meaningful sense JEEPs are a 75 year old, continuous presence of sorts in both India and China, given ww2+independence.

    It will be fascinating to see whether and how FCA leverages this old familiarity with JEEP in India (to the point of it being a common rather than proper noun!) in its brand-launch advertizing and hopefully also experiential marketing events like the one above, for which FCA/Jeep is justly famous in the usa and in europe, japan and australia.
