IMG_20210805_181604_compress23.jpg I recently changed the timing chain for Fiat Punto diesel 75 hp after 80k kms and in 7th Year. I got the timing chain and other spares from Maruti Suzuki MGP parts as recommended by FNG (Mr Kailash Patil, Maruti Service Center, Upnagar, Nasik).

He insisted on change of oil seals, gaskets, Alternator belt tensioner adjuster and water pump. I got the alternator belt tensioner adjuster and water pump from 99rpm.
I saved around 1500 by getting the timing chain kit from MGP.
    Total cost for this work

    Water pump 4088
    Tensioner adjuster 2622
MGP Timing chain Kit and spares 4361
    Labour 2500
Oil Shell 15w40 ci4 1ltr 260. (Mixed it with left over motul 5w40)
    Oil filter 160
    Pollen filter 235
    Net amount 14226.

All the work was carried in front of me. Have driven 400kms post the change.

Mr Kailash have been servicing my car from 3 years. Very polite and good Natured person. Has advised change of engine mounts in the next servicing. I'll be changing the link rods too.

Good to know that Maruti parts directly suits 75bhp Punto.

    Right method, AFAIK.

    Is mixing different grades advisable??

MGP Timing chain and other engine parts fit for 90hp Punto and Linea too. One part fits all. Even Tata genuine parts are direct fit on Maruti and Fiat. But Tata spares are as costly as Fiat.

Changing all the gaskets and seals, as well as leaving the locktite applied to oil sump overnight and allowing it to cure it for more than 12 hours ensured there are no leakages.

I've done the mixing of oils for the first time. CI4 being specific for diesel, is thicker, mileage has dropped by 1 to 2kmpl. But the vibrations are minimal. You feel more composed while driving. Need to observe that after 1 to 2k kms of running.

Timing chain change also requires a fresh engine oil change, AFAIK.
Your mechanic did not advise this?

Yes, I replaced the used engine oil with the leftover unused oil in the cans previously used + the 1 litre shell CI4 to make it 3.2 litres. I didn't fill up the used oil.

Mixing of oils seems a riskier matter, as per some websites. I'll better get it change after 2k kms. What is your opinion please.

I would not have mixed grades. I would do an oil change at the earliest.
You could also listen to your mechanic to know when to do it.

I talked with my mechanic, he said there shall be no issues as such once in a while. The oil additives also modify the oil viscosity/properties but do not cause harm for diesel engines.

I would recommend 5W40 or 5W30, the oil spray parts working well with thinner oils if they(Oil spray nozzles) get blocked then the oil circulation might get disturbed.
And I could not see the CAMSIDE Sproket in the timing chain list, did your FNG changed it?

Yes, I'm going to change the oil to 5w30 (shell helix hx8 possibly).
As I've mentioned above in the first post, the spares list was given by the mechanic (after opening the old chain). CAMSIDE Sproket wasn't needed to be replaced as per his opinion. Since Fiat OEM water pump and alternator belt tensioner adjuster are not readily available, these were procured initially.
