I am supporting it, please keep spreading the word.
I really think this is the best what one commuter can do..
If we avoid them for one day..it will hit them hard.. only thing is that it should be popularize.
For folks with apprehensions and doubts - Guys if we try, there MIGHT or might not be any effect; but if we don't, there's DEFINITELY not going to be any effect.

I don't know if it has had any effect on the Autos/Taxis, but the traffic on the road this morning to work was just bad!
Could be the reason that a lot of people who usually travel in autos/taxis decided to get their own transport.

I am not sure about Taxi, but Autos needs to learn some lessons, in Bangalore. They mostly refuse to go for smaller distance. or charge very high fair. If rain starts, their fare becomes double. Most meters are tempered.

Situation is worse in Pune. If you asked them to go to little outer to the city the fare becomes double and here also they dont go for small distances.

don't think it was really helpful man, as the people who took autos that day, paid double meter!!!
yeah but it must be a relief for cars as hardly any autos were around!!
need to do a week long jam, cops also don't care if these guys break any rules, these guys have all the leverage in the world to do anything, rules are only for the aam admi.

Nice thread. Recently I had to travel from kodambakkam to Pattullos road in Chennai. I called a auto and he charged me 150. It is 5.5 So Rs 30 per km.
From Pattullos road to college road ~4 km another 150. Then from my first experience I didn't accept this time and went back them he finally agreed for 90. He told in chennai we have to tell twice or thrice amount and then only we will get some thing. Why there is no meters?

I had a more funnier experience once in Chennai when I was about to take an auto from central . I told the auto driver that I will give only the amount which will be shown in the meter & for that the driver smiled and told me a very funny answer. 'Sir the meter runs faster than the auto. So you want me to pay the meter rate or you'll pay a fixed rate' for which I agreed to the later :confused

That reminds me of a funny incident which happened to me and a colleague at Chennai. Don't remember the exact places as it was some time in early 1997. We took the auto from a shopping area to our hotel and the driver agreed to go by meter rate. Then I watched in horror as the meter climbed to around Rs.150 and after that it started going reverse and came down to about Rs.102. Then it started climbing again. By that time we reached the hotel and I got out and gave Rs.110. Then the auto driver checked the meter and started screaming that it is not working and I have to give more. He made a scene and gathered a crowd and finally we settled for 130/- or so.
