    I guess FIAT will by then bring in there NextGen Engines in market , forcing others to still opt for them.
    But then a good competition always brings out best for customers, so i guess it ill put the R&D house at FIAT on toes. as well as push FIAT to bring in new generation engines to indian market :)

    +1 to Viny. This way getting 1.6 MJT for Linea is more reasonable.
  4. Every company is working on Fuel Cell technology. Not sure why Suzuki would invest a billion dollar on Diesel engine.

    Good if it works that way but sooner. AFter maruti and others bring out their own good engines, if FIAT wakes up with MJD2 or TwinAir, then its futile.

    They should outsource the project to VM Motori, now a fully owned subsidiary of FIAT :evilsmile

    I don't think Suzuki has the technical know-how to pull this off. Honda with all it's technical might could only create a half-baked 1.5 litre diesel.

    Let's see how the cookie crumbles.

    @Sat,
    Probably because India is the market which will adopt to any new stuffs after its nearing to the extinction due to price and everything. So maruti with their diesel engines will atleast play good for next 10-15 years. May be then fuel cells would come to India.

    See luxury car entries with lot of safety features, they are entering india after along time since their were developed. Even today 50-60% cars runs without any safety stuffs, so we Indians do not care for such for various reasons.

    @Gurji,
    That is why they are starting off with 800Cc for the masses. If they did pull off well then they might go for 1.6 and others.

    Make a diesel engine & brand it as Maruti's own Diesel engine & swift will be the 1st car to have it, it will sell like hotcakes in India & would break the booking numbers record.

    Dear SAT-CHIT-Ananda,

    Billions is a very big figure they would not even utilize 1/10th of that in there total R&D setup for that.
    Even though we have cars, india has its own share of various forms of animal driven carts and there are around 160+ countries that will probably still drive using same black oil if at all it remains available till then...Investment in future tech is good, but if there nothing which can keep the company alive in near future then its a dead end for company :p

    More over company is starting from 800 cc - 1.2L range, so it would be more of learning exercise and using indians an guinea pigs majorly.
