Maruti and FIAT manufacture their engines separately. The parts supplier can not necessarily be the same.
What is baffling is the recall to replace a part as critical as the con rod bolt. How it escaped quality checks, if any.
All these 13,000 are gonna have their engine oil sumps opened at the very least.
Recalls are common these days, last year I broke some news in the hangout thread (Honda / Toyota etc recalling their cars world wide more than once in short span of time)
Its good that they proactively do this before some major things happen which may not be reversible...hence I wish all companies do this and help the consumers... opening an engine outside factory is bit of risk, but proper training will ensure that such thing goes smooth.
All in the name of cost cutting? Risk passed on to the customer with such a critical part being defective.
That's capitalism at its worst.
Its not cost cutting exactly. It is the refusal of car companies to give price increases when it happens.
