Two major surprises found over the Gudi Padwa weekend.

First the Right vent(next to the steering wheel) was found damaged. Dont know when it broke off. Attached pic for reference. Does this mean the entire vent setup needs to be changed? As per 99 rpm, it will cost 400 bucks.

Secondly the rear wiper blade part was found lying next to the car come off from the rear wiper arm. Tried fixing it back but the rubber blade doesnt fir perfectly, it seems the steel base used to straighten the rubben balde seems to have been misplaced and upon searching couldnt find it. Cant fix the rubber blade on the wiper arm, surely will come off with one operation. Where will I find that steel support or will I be forced to buy the complete wiper blade itself?

I think best to replace the whole thing. Else, best to ask your nearby AC wala, if you are lucky you can find a jugaad from another broken spare lying with him.
Fevi Quick wont hold to that will it. There is another product from pidilite of araldite grade that dries within an hour. A kind of fast drying araldite costing about Rs. 20-35/-

Had a similar issue on the Linea for front wiper arm, was recommended by garage guys to change the whole thing, else I would risk breaking the glass. :?
Remove the wiper arm totally in the mean while before trying to fix it well, one flip of switch by mistake and your glass is ruined forever. Or replace the whole thing.

Yesterday evening after a great attempt finally got the wiper blade ready after finding the steel inserts (one in the building and other at a nearby automobile parts store) but when I tried to fix the blade on the wipre arm, the notch which holds the blade on the wiper arm itself broke. So now no other alternative than to replace the wiper arm + blade. I tell you, for a moment I was really pissed off with Fiat's plastic quality. The right vent next to the steering wheel is another example.

    One query experts.

Today while travelling to office on the Eastern express highway on the turn to approach Powai, the stallion paused and stopped moving due to a moron who was attempting to pass through before me and had to apply brakes hard. I restarted the car and moved on quickly but does this in any ways negate the basic requirement of turbo idling for at least half a minute. If I had waited for the idling, the continous honking car owners would have caught my neck.:(

@ghodlur, i dont think we need to idle in such situations for 2 reasons:
    1. combustion chamber would already be heated up as shown by temperature needle since you had driven for sometime.
    2. the moving parts inside the engine would have still been lubricated since it happened quickly.

Turbo idling while stopping the car is more important I suppose. Engine/Turbo idling in quick moving traffic or emergency is not possible after start. No need to worry I guess. Just take care while stopping the car post high speed runs.

All Turbos undergo extreme stress and need replacement at some point sooner or later. While replacement as you know is expensive, a repair option of impeller and bearings is also available these days by a few diesel pump specialists. FGTs have been around sometime and are easier to fix I guess; atleast more than the VGTs which may or may not be fixable that easily.

I have a got a couple of car poolers with me for the daily office runs (now who wouldnt want to sit in a Punto right?). One of the car poolers has noticed smell emanting inside the cabin when the AC is switched ON. I particularly havent noticed the smell but it seems the smell is distinct at the rear bench (I guess since the air throw is directed towards the read from the centre air vents). I do have a My Shaldon kept inside the cabin and its about 50% full. So what could be the reason for the smell? Do I have to get the air vents cleaned and de-bacterized? 3M has one of the options for the same, havent checked the price.

They have re-introduced the HEPA type filters again for Fiat. If your's is not changed yet get it done soon. This issue can happen to most cars, but first step is to check the filter. 3M or other AC experts will use foam type odour neutraliser, that can help to an extent. This can also happen due to faulty drain pipe or a faulty evaporator, but that is the last thing to touch in this matter.

Before that you can try this trick for a few days. Every time when you reach your destination, turn off the compressor and keep the blowers running at full speed for 5-10 mins with windows open. Also, when you start the AC every morning, keep the ventilation switch to open for a good 10mins., to allow fresh air inside the cabin. This along with the HEPA filter will take care of most odour related issues and reduce fungal and bacterial issues in the AC system. Do post how it works.

    Thanks Aseem for the tip.

Normally I keep the circulation On in the fresh air mode in the mornings for 10 mins as you said and then switch on the AC. Even while shutting off, I switch off the AC and keep the blower running but in the recirculation mode. I should be using the fresh air mode even while shutting off I guess. Thanks, will try and let you know.

All air conditioners should have HEPA filters and good quality plasma air-ionisers as a must. Not having these can make any healthy person sick in the long run. Unless one lives in Himalayas or some hill stations with frequent rains and cold climate. :p

EXTRA TIP: In case you don't know, not using the fine paper type (HEPA type) filter will kill the evaporator coil in the car, which is why Fiat re-introduced the paper type filters again. The down side is it can affect cooling a little bit, especially in the afternoon heat.
