Linea Horn Switch Pad Issue - Resolved - Now Resurfaced

Discussion in 'Electrical Systems' started by Viny, Nov 19, 2012.

  1. That's very unfortunate Viny. Did you try to get a quote from Kava? If not get in touch with them and get to know the price. Keep Kava as a last resort.

changing the airbag for horn is insane. now i remember even my uncles linea had the horn problem. they never changed it and kept on cleaning the copper points. now if he faces the same problem again he will also have to pay as the car is out of warranty.

there should be some work around for this as it is just an issue of copper palte rusting. As others said consult a local horn specialist or do some google on your own and go for a DIY..its just related to closing the circuit right? If you can share the pictures here may be some TFIans could help.

please don't change the steering. its insane.

(just for fun) get the horn used in buses which I used to fancy from child hood days. It would have two sticks just next to the steering wheel and you can play a rhythm out of it :D

Viny, buy 0.5mm shims. You can ask for shims or feeler guages in hardware shops which keep material for machine tool maintenance. Cut those into pieces and solder them to the existing plates. DONE :)

Ya i am thinking of buying tactile push switches and placing it under the pressure points :)

Costs less than $2 for 50+ switches :p

No reply from Mangesh, on requesting the acknowledgement, the services team replied back seeking details about car registration and dealer.
I hope the will work further based on details.

My mistake. It was actually 5 and not 4 - viny, me, amit, rajeev_pillai, vishnu's

    You are the 6th one.

Your uncle's Linea is the 7th.

BTW, how many km's has your Linea run?

Tactile switches may not survive high current of horn. they are made for few milli-amps.
any Idea how much current does horn switches has to bear?
anybody have multimeter with current range??

Add me to the list. Facing the same issue from quite some time now. It fail to respond after few months of usage.

Design failure would be the perfect term and would blame quality control team for the issue. I would also write down to FIAT team for the issue.

That makes it to 8 in a thread which is 2 days & 3 pages "old".

BTW, Viny - Have you checked those 3 copper strips in the circular groove I mentioned? If not, just get it checked once. They will not be costly. I do not know the cost as when one of them was broken in my Linea, they did not have part & SA went inside workshop and brought it saying that it's from an accidental Linea. The issue is these things can't be broken by rough usage (??), nor can it be broken by TASC or SA while repairing something else.
