    Hi
    I plan to go to Rameswaram in Aug, to make use of the Aug 15th holiday, clubbed with a leave.
    Code:
    [A better option than Rameswaram is welcome]
    It is also going to be my anniversary and she wants a peaceful trip. She is not the one who wants to cover as many places in a day, she wants to enjoy the places, taking her own time.
    Her parents will also accompany us total of 4 adults+3yr old kid.

    Q1. Which route should I take?
    (Route1) Kochi->Munnar->Madurai->Rameswaram OR
    (Route2) Kochi-Tenkasi->Tirunelveli->Rameswaram?
    Which one has better roads?

    Q2. She complains of dizziness while travelling the winding roads in higher altitudes. How best can I avoid it?

    Q3. Is it OK to visit Rameswaram in Aug mid? Is the weather good? We plan to visit Dhanushkodi as well.
    Q4. Is there are better option than Rameswaram? On Aug 18th, I need to return to Trivandrum by afternoon, for a relative's function, unavoidable.

    The plan is like:
    Day1 : Reach Rameswaram
    Day2 : Visit temple, Pampan Bridge, Dhanushkodi [Is it too much?]
    Day3 : Return

    Thanks.

    The route options are here:

    Thanks

    Both Route 1 and Route 2 have good roads except that Route 1 will have extensive and high altitude ghat roads. You may stick with Route 2 if you want to avoid that.

    I don't know if you have visited Rameshwaram earlier. Don't expect a leisurely visit to Rameshwaram as tourists visit there throughout the year and the town is always congested. Danushkodi is a nice place to visit and plan to go there early in the morning.

    Note:- I visited Rameshwaram in October 2009 and it was hot even during that time. Expect a warm weather during August too.

    Thanks ramjn.
    All of us are visiting Rameswaram for the first time.
    I would then go to Dhanushkodi on Day3 morning & Return on the same day.

    I personally prefer Route1, for the altitude ;)
    Can I lessen the impact if I drive slow? or any other technique?

    Yes. It is maneagable. Adimali-Munnar stretch has less curves than Munnar-Bodi section.

    For Danushkodi, you won't need a day there. Just couple of hours should be sufficient. Stay in Rameshwaram itself and drive down to Danushkodai early in the morning and then hire a 4x4 to go further.

    Let me check this option with her. She is "high command" any way.

    OK. I will make it as the only attraction for day 3.
    Thank you

    If you are starting from Cochin and getting back to TVM, then the best would be to use Route1 to reach Rameswaram and take the return through TN(via Nagercoil) back to TVM. I am not sure of the condition of Munnar road. They especially get worse during monsoon, and this monsoon was a bit too much.

    Yes, this is another option. All depending on road condition.
    Did anyone travel on those routes after the monsoons started this year?

    Yes, I will also be taking option 2.
    However, this trip is postponed for now. Non-availability of wife's leaves. She has utilized leaves for an unexpected occasion.

    Avoid Munnar route.. the road conditions are horrible now..
