Thanks @bibin for that link. Very intriguing.

Their five year plan for india does state a Fiat-branded b-suv based on a lightened palio platform for 2016. This 'thinking aloud' by this senior Jeep executive suggests that car may be a Jeep instead? Or, who knows, both a Jeep (tougher and more 'premium') version AND the sub-4m? Fiat b-suv? Like the Renegade is twinned with the 500X.

That is JUST the sort of thing they should consider/implement for local manufacture, launch and exports out of India! Offer an 'authentic' Jeep version too, even if mainly for exports. BOTH brands would benefit in India, and revenues/profits would face fewer risks, given the involvement of the much-stronger Jeep brand, and given exports?

Jeep has been doing exceptionally well in Australia over the last 2 years, scorchingly so. FCA's australian boss says FCA wants to grow Jeep AND Fiat, and of course the new Alfa-s, and Dodge and Ram too.

He explicitly says FCA Australia will try and avail the ongoing 'industrialization' (i.e., localized production) of FCA in Asia, so that free trade and investment agreements in Asia-Pac can be availed of. Which only means either China or India. He also points to the Renegade and the 500X as hot successes waiting to happen in Australia.

Now, Australia is right-hand drive, and is a MAJOR, confirmed by Autocar India and the Business Standard via FCA APAC and FCA and Tata India sources, target export market for the locally made in Ranjangaon 2016/17 Jeep C-Suv.

Ergo, India could/will?!! be a similar export-to-Australia source for the Renegade, the 500X and/or the other compact Jeep and Fiat models built of the SUSW platform that underpins them and the Jeep C-suv. Or will they be supplied out of the new FCA China plants.

btw, the Linea-replacement currently undergoing testing in Europe+Turkey is off that same platform, with similar powertrains (t-jet, 1.3, 1.6 and 2.0 litre mjd), as most likely will be the Chrysler 100 (presumably very similar to this Linea), another car he says he wants FCA to offer in Australia in a big way.

Ergo, is it not the case that India-as-export-base for SUSW cars (and engines, components/modules) like the C-suv, Renegade, 500x, 500L, new Linea etc....for major right-hand drive markets like Australia and Japan, and even the UK+Ireland? means that FCA India can profitably offer some or over time all these cars (well above rs. 10 lakhs, from say 11 lakhs up to say 25lakhs) in India too in an aggressive and financially viable use of the currently underused (other than for engines) Ranjangaon plant?

With MUCH better margins for dealers and FCA even if the net numerical sales figures are not in many thousands, which they aren't and are unlikely to ever be in the mass market IN ANY CASE?

Here's a very booster-ish article by a financial and auto industry analyst about the sales prospects, globally, of the Renagade and its twin, the 500X, and therefore the revenue and sheer profit-growth prospects of FCA over the next 2 years.

    http://seekingalpha.com/article/317...jeep-for-a-100-country-global-sales-offensive

Now, he may have a conflict of interest of some sorts, but what he's saying makes complete sense and matches with the available facts about the 2 brands in the US, Europe (W, E or South), Turkey, LatAm, China, Australia and the Middle East/North Africa, though sadly not India (as yet!)

Mules presumably for the C-suv (meant also for local manufacture and exports in/outof India) have been spotted near Auburn Hills, Michigan (FCA US hq) looking like extended wheelbase Renegades, with Renegade bits as body-panel camouflage.

At this rate of development and testing: they'll hopefully be able to preview it at the AutoExpo here in feb 2016! The 5-year plan has this, globally AND for India, listed for launch in end-2016, though that could be early 2017?

Aforesaid mule with real Renegade-parts as camo. 10 inches longer wheelbase, it is said: a lot, enough to make it roomier in the back than the Audi Q3 or Q5, BMW X3, Merc GLA, Volvo V40 Cross. And probably equal the Fortuner, Endeavour, Pajero and Santa Fe (without the 6th and 7th seats of course).

What is intriguing is whether they go chic-urbane-version-of-Wrangler like they did with the Renegade's styling or, instead, do they have this SUV mimic the Grand Cherokee or perhaps riff off the pretty-damn-radical Cherokee?

It seems difficult for the India local production to start before 2017 for this C-Suv (as planned, officially and explicitly, it is for end 2016) if the testing of the chassis and engines are only now underway? Well perhaps not, since the engines, the monocoque platform (shared with the 500X and Renegade, and the Fiat Aegea sedan+hatch too), the transmission etc are all-ready already. Validation, testing....and go!

One guesses that FCA India's hard at work, already, preparing the India supply chain/vendor-base for this important (because mainly for exports) high-spec and high-quality vehicle, as also the Ranjangaon plant and the Indian r&d team.

Also, of course, Tata's 2 new SUV-s in the 12 to 20 lakh range will apparently share, at least, the engines and transmissions with this Jeep.

This SUV can be the first one to take a big bite out of the Fortuner's near-monpoly position in India, high-potentially, apart from also enabling conquest sales from the cheaper Audi-s, BMW-s and Merc-s?!

And lay the foundations for other Fiat and Jeep vehicles off this same Indianized/localized platform+powertrains (even if more for exports): the Renegade? the Aegea sedan?......and (dear Sergio M, kindly please)...the 500X ??

    http://www.rushlane.com/jeep-c-suv-codename-551-spied-india-launch-2017-12158507.html

This is the best-guessed-by-those-knowledgeable-Jeep guys and aficionado-s who've seen these camo-ed images in the US to be: the to-be-made-in-India Jeep C-Suv. Clearly styled more like the Grand Cherokee or maybe even the somewhat edgy, sleek and avant-garde Cherokee, rather than the classic boxier Willy's jeep look of the Wrangler and in a cute and affectionate interpretation, the Renegade.

Rashlane claim a price target of 19 lakhs or so. if that is true then it is certainly the case that Jeep will try a 'tweener' approach: position the SUV between the D1 and D2 segments, perhaps a version with not the 2litre mjd but the 1.5 mjd could be even notably cheaper than that figure, at least for non-advanced-4X4 versions?

PS: Kevin Flynn, md of fca indiA, says that they're looking at other options on this same platform, powertrain etc, explicitly says they're looking at the Renegade (obviously) but also the 500X. Of course he could just be saying it for the sake of looking busy and commited etc, but if true that is splendid news. Provided, one supposes, the 500X sees enough export demand in rhd markets, India could become a rhd export hub for Fiat too, and not just for Jeep (+the associated Tata suv-s).
