Insurance Companies To Increase Premium On Diesel Cars

If you thought the recent price hike of diesel fuel was bad, then your in for another shock. Diesel care are more expensive to buy than their petrol counterparts, cheaper to run but slightly dearer to maintain. Being expensive to buy also means higher insurance on them and now insurance companies have taken the opportunity to make hay while the sun shines. General insurance companies claim to be faced with high losses in motor policy claims and are in for as much as a 30% hike in insurance premium, ouch! The logic seems farce as their is no theory to prove what Mr. Vijay Kumar is trying to say.

“An individual travelling long distances mostly chooses a diesel vehicle, leading to higher exposure to risk, which may increase the premium. Fuel has become an important rating parameter with the growing preference for diesel vehicles” Vijay Kumar , Head, Motor Insurance, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, said.

So basically interpreting the above statement, we can say that petrol car owners are a boring lot and don’t drive that often. That is total hogwash as no discrimination on driving pattern can be portrayed based on the choice of fuel of an individual. We know many people who would chose a diesel over a petrol just for the fantastic engine characteristics and fun to drive nature. Also some companies say that diesel cars are used more by commercial users, so why don’t you charge both accordingly? Why should the common man face the grunt of your assumptions, which are far from the truth? On the other hand, this is the second time petrol car owners can rejoice this year, the first being the diesel price hike, where petrol was left untouched. Meanwhile we are on our way to get ourselves a Reva!
  2. I also heard about this Work Contract VAT only recently - Shows that I should have read this thread before going for any claims!!

    Guys !!!! I really am in need of some good suggestion. I own an Punto 1.3 Active MJD and my car will turn 1yr old on Dec 18th. So its time for Insurance renewal aswell. I was given free insurance from Future Generali at the time of purchase of my car. Yesterday I was informed by my wife that there was a reminder letter from Future Generali with quotation for the renewal and following are the details of the content in it ;

    Expiry Date : 17-12-2011
    IDV : Rs. 4,47,890 /-
    Premium With NCB : Rs. 10,192 /-
    Premium w/o NCB : Rs. 17,329 /-

    Following are my queries :

    - Is the IDV that has been mentioned correct? Can't we increase it?
    - Is the premium amount quoted for the proposed IDV acceptable?
    - Should I be going for 0% depreciation? Actually I donot want to now, but may be next year. Is it possible?
    - I am not in India at the moment and will not be returning till Dec 25th, so cannot / donot want my wife to run around for switching the Insurance company.
    - Is there any simple or better way to switch Isurance company? In that case which Insurance company should I opt for?
    - Will the NCB considered if I am switching my Insurance company?

Please help me out with this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

Simple Kiran! Just logon on to any portal like policybazaar . com or go directly to insurance companies websites and buy a policy online. You do not need to submit any documents or anything. Just enter the relevant details and you will have your policy instantly. Yes NBC will be transferred to the new company. No clue on IDV or premium though. Cheers!

Thanks a lot kapoor and Shams. Many of my doubts are now cleared. I would enquire with the Future Generali guy and ask a quote for 0% depreciation aswell. Also would have a look at policybazar.com.

Nitin , Hi can you inform which dealer in delhi offers cashless on Bajaj Policy. Last year I had had some issues with my Linea and none of the dealers were willing to do cashless

I remember Rama Motors in Okhla used to do it. I had Bajaj till last year and when the unfortunate need arose for a claim, I went to Rama but got so frustrated with their attitude that ended up giving the car at Sanya without the cashless facility. No idea about anyone else though.

    Hi,

My car has 3-4 things that I want repaired:
    - Front grill change and bonnet repair (dent)
    - A long dent on the right side rear fender and door - done by a biker
    - A small dent on the left rear fender
    - Scratches marks, especially on the rear bonnet

Can I get them all (or at least the first three) done together in one claim?

My insurance is up for renewal in April.

The damages that you are claiming should all be part of one accident which seems difficult to prove in this case.
