Just thought to check Verna SX (O) CRDI 1.6 test drive, went to nearest dealer which are 500 mts from my home. They didn’t have Verna Test Drive car, only one petrol Base model available.
There are I20 Sprotz (ABS) model with 6 gears and all wheel disc brake. Asked them for test drive, they took my contact number & DL no and provided me test drive.
I was with my wife & we had test drive for I20 (89 HP 1.4 CRDI).

    Observation:-
Looks: - Exterior look are nowhere as earlier I20, earlier I20 was good looking. Interior feels are airy, but I fell interior plastic quality degraded from earlier I20 (don’t know if SPORTZ & ASTA ABS has diff plastic quality), If both are same then I can say interior quality degraded. Fluidic Design are really looking good in Verna & Sonata (not in Elantra), but its nowhere in I20 if you compare with its earlier gen model.

    Performance & Drive:-

    • Initial impression: - I cranked the engine and fell diesel clatter. Good amount of sound in the cabin, when I asked their SA, they told it’s a diesel, not petrol, clatter will be obvious. I asked them Hyundai Diesel is silent in terms of refinement. When I checked Verna last year, refinement was really good and very minimal diesel clatter inside the cabin. So, In I20 it’s really bad. Some screeching sound came in a brand new car, asked SA about Steering rattle, they told it already rectified, Hyundai didn’t learnt lession from user problem. My wife from passenger seat also told about this sound.
    • Good feature: - Rear view camera integrated with IRVM is really good from Verna. Sportz also comes with 6 gears & all wheel disc brake.
    • Drive:- Felt turbo lag in I20, This is no where a driver’s car if I compare with Punto, With 89 Hp its nowhere compare with my 76 hp Punto, forget about 90hp Punto. So I thought only 6[SUP]th[/SUP] gear is a boon (only in Highway, no use in city driving). For in gear acceleration & mileage you can feel 6[SUP]th[/SUP] gear is a boon, but 6[SUP]th[/SUP] gear is boon for heavy car, not in light car like I20, Verna. Drove around 10 km, and car stopped when I was in 10 km/h in 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] gear. Started again and slotted in 1[SUP]st[/SUP] gear to drive, I can drive my Punto in second gear in 10Kmph, so tried the same in I20, failed. May be its due to gear ratio different in Punto & I20.
This is a Car for city driving; from drivability concern Figo is way better than I20.

After driving this car I will test drive Polo to check the details.

I already drove Figo (own of my relative, my cousin’s husband own Figo Titanium). Figo is really good car from my view after driving I20 (this is new car came to showroom, when I asked they told this is not a Test Drive vehicle, I was like ).
Don’t think this is a biased view, I left my enthusiast view because I20 is no where a driver’s car.
So my view was from day to day customer point of view as my wife was with me, she just learnt driving, she is normal customer & no enthusiast.

    Resolution: - Top 4.
Best Driver Car with drivability & Ride: - Punto>Polo>Figo>I20.
    Outer looks: - Punto>Polo>I20>Figo.
    Interior design quality: - Polo=Punto>Figo> I20.
Plastic material quality & Airy feeling: - Polo>I20>Figo>Punto.
Gear Ratio for better driving in City: - Figo>I20>Punto=Polo.
Lesser Turbo Lag in lower RPM: - Figo>I20=Punto=Polo
    ICE: - Polo>I20>Figo>Punto.
    Safety feature: - I20>Punto=Polo=Figo.

  2. I 20 is not a driver car at all, before deciding on which car to buy took 4-5 test drives of i20,my wife was very happy and inclined over i20.Even I liked the large features list, but honestly thats it.There is no steering feedback at speeds above 80kmph.Brakes are good, but for 4 discs its not upto the mark.
ICE I didnt like that much, the new Puntos ICE is way better that i20's.(Features like auto headlamp, wiper are not necessary for us).Keyless entry, push start-stop button are good.
High speed stability is not to inspiring, and neither is cornering because of poor steering feedback.

i20 asta has same interiors as sportz.

I doubt whether 120 can score over punto in safety features. Punto come with much more wider tyres which are good for better grip.
The trip computer is a boon. It never distract while operating it while cruising.
Solid build is a feature(at least for me)
What about the hydrolic steering which does it's job with complete precision.
    FIRE prevention system.

One will find some features that are not that important in i20. But Features in Punto are life saving. Any day I cannot give less score than any hatch in India.:)

For ICE I feel Figo has one of the best
But in hatches figo has the best AC .

I thought I20 interiors better than Punto  but here I20 scores only 1 and also exterior I20 is not that bad to score only 2.
  5. Some people like the new i20 fluidic design, some dont.I personally dont like the design much, liking or disliking is ones personal choice or opinion.

Just curious to know whether the door unlock when we stop the engine. In Getz it work this stupid way. Totally unsafe.
Wondering they have corrected it or not in i20.

Sorry, I didn't mention the scoring criterion.

I mentioned Interior design here, not the interior material quality. This comparison between the 4 Car I mentioned.

I20 exterior was good for earlier I20.

You've given Punto 4th rank in "Best Driver Car with drivability with Ride", right?

Sun, rightly said, :).. I20 has little score more than others with all wheel disc brake, Rear view camera installed in IRVM, 6 Airbag. So I20 has little edge here.

Basic safety features are Airbag & ABS, here I20 has more, how much is effective that owners can tell ( I think best review user who spend more time with car can provide, no auto mag can gives the correct one)

I checked this review from Day to Day Customer point of view, when I customer goes to showroom and checks car what he basically thinks and wants, this is not a enthusiasts point of view review.. :).

Gurji, sorry for not mentioning the Ranking criterion:-

4- 1st Rank in the comparison. ( if I have to give 4 point scale, as no 1, it is 4)
    3- 2nd Rank.
    2- 3rd Rank
    1- Last Rank.

Sorry for confusing, It should be Point ( based on Ranking 4 point scale),
Dear Mod's, please correct the first post where I mentioned ionly Ranking, It should be Point ( based on Ranking 4 point scale), .

I couldn't get the edit option, Extremely sorry for this confusion.

Correct Arnab, I20 Interior material quality are good, but Interior dasbord design aren't looks good if you think from Dasbord design perspective, Polo has simple, good design.

Punto has also good design, but due to material quality doesnot reflected.

Sun, I checked the Sportz model, Start stop option present in ASTA ABS model. I will chek this functionality later.

Quoting personal experience after having driven a 1.2 yr old previous gen i20 Asta Crdi.

    1. I20 is highly painful to drive in city bumper-to-bumper traffic. That turbo lag always makes you downshift unlike Punto which you can drive in more or less same gear.
    2. Beg to differ about diesel clatter in i20. Once the engine warms up you hardly get to know whether its a petrol or diesel. i20 does not even come with a under bonnet cladding useful for noise cut-down. The engine is so silent at higher speeds too. It does a 100 km/hr at 2100rpm in sixth gear. Fantastic to cruise at 120 km/hr.
    3. Steering rattle was present earlier. After multiple visits to HASS, they have been able to curb it. Thankfully it is no more there.
    4. The acceleration when turbo kicks in is tremendous fun to experience. :)
