Hissing noise from outside the body

Hi guys, i also noticed the same sound, but it kind of became quiet prominent after i went for a long drive. Took the car to TASS today and the SA said its some problem with the fuel pump and that they will replace it (My punto is still under warranty), but need to wait for 10 days to get the part.

 

I am also having the same sound, prominent after a long drive. thought its just normal but after seeing your reply I am also thinking to check during my next service.

 

After months of waiting for the spare to arrive, ASPI finally called up last week to inform that the fuel pump has arrived. Reached the service centre in the morning and the SA did the usual paper work and said will replace the same in about two hours. I waited in the lounge and could see my punto being driven on the bay. After about half an hour the SA asked me to come down to the service area. The electrical technician was there and he asked if there is a noise inside and i said its only from outside near the fuel tank the hissing sound is prominent. He started the engine and said the hissing noise is normal and all cars have the same. He also took a test drive and said it normal. I am surprised how two other FIAT technicians diagnosed it as a problem and ordered for a replacement under warranty? Anyways i am happy that its all sorted out and that my punto doesnt need a part replacement in the very first year.

 

If the hissing is heard at idling and is from the left side of the engine when you open the bonnet and face it, then it the vaccum generator working to produce vaccum for the Brake booster. Nothing to worry about. We fiatians are such perfectionists, spend much time inside, outside and in the bonnet area of our cars, that we sometimes have a stethoscopic ear to look for malfunctions. I had a similar issue, got the brake booster changed under extended warranty,but the hiss persisted. So it was decided it was normal.

The other hiss noise you hear is when you turn on the ignition and before you start, you can hear a hiss for a few seconds in the under body. That is also normal.

Thank you all guys. You all have brought peace of mind back to me as i started worrying about the hissing sound. Yes the sound is coming from the rear right end of the car. I was thinking of inspecting the exhaust pipe as i thought that there might be some pin hole in the exhaust pipe.
As long as we are here discussing and sharing our issues no need to worry about TATA service technicians:evilsmile, we itself can sort out our problems.

 

Happy to see this thread Just noticed the same hissing sound in my 2013 Punto MJD after a long journey to my native. Since it was in running in period I put the engine in idle after the long highway drive and got for out the car. Felt as if some gas was leaking out from beneath. Could not visibly make out anything and was really worried to hear the sound in the 2nd week of ownership
Searched TFI to find this thread and hapy about it. Should I go ahead and mention this during my first service ?

Even I observed th same on my New Punto Sport - 340 KMS of ownership and I was worried of this hissing sound. Thanq guys for this thread

Even I have noticed same hissing sound on my New Punto Emotionm -245 KMS of ownership. Could anyone suggest what was the solution for the same.

 

Noise is of fuel pump. Noise is related to performance also.
Relation of priming noise of fuel pump with performance is as follows :-

Priming noise of fuel pump of my Maruti SX4 DDiS is louder than my 90HP.
When I turn ignition key to MAR of my DDiS fuel pump emits strong noise &
everytime I sense impact of spining of fuel pump (Torque of fuel pump)

My 90 is facing poor throttle response. So I have dicussed with WM about checking of fuel pump.
