Sundar, performance is a term which can mean different things to different people who have different driving experience, have different driving styles and drive different cars..

Enough has been said already on this thread about punto's capabilities. Since you are new to driving, i think it anyways wouldn't matter much to you for atleast another year. My honest suggestion is not to give so much importance to performance and look at other positives/negatives that matter to you.

I would recommend you to take extended test drives of the cars in contention on all kinds of roads that you are likely to drive on with people who have good driving experience and also go through the ownership reviews on this forum as many as you can to get more clarity on your buying decision if you are still in doubt. Just asking questions without sufficient ground work from your side will not help you arrive at any logical decision.

Theres no noticeable difference between mileage of these two.
Thats why i said take your friends who have good driving experience along with you ask them to test drive and give an honest opinion.

I thought the mileage figures for 90HP is higher than that of 75HP. I think it is because of the VGT and related tuning to the engine

Performance to me means a combination of powerfull engine with comparitive ride & handling & steering feedback. Some of the cars I, personally feel, have been performance car's in India:

    - Ford Ikon 1.6
    - Fiat Palio / Siena / Palio S10 1.6
    - Fiat Linea T-Jet 1.4
    - Skoda Octavia 1.8 VRS
    - Skoda Laura VRS

Some cars that are powerful but don't qualify as performance cars:

    - Honda City 1.5 (first generation)
    - Honda City 1.5 I-Vtec (current generation - I have one)
    - Hyundai Getz 1.5 Crdi
    - Hyundai Verna 1.5 CRDI (Last generation)
    - Hyundai Verna 1.5 CRDI (Current Generation)

As for the Linea & Punto, the car's are adequately powered - as good as competition is. It is the stupid first & second gearing that makes you feel it's under powered.

    Linea 1.3
    That is true amit.

But, I have easily taken Ford's and elder Fiat's with my Linea on the highway. There may be a bad driver on the other end to handle a car driven by fairly good driver :).

Both VRS, Laura & Octavia were serious performance cars. May be I felt it special because there suspension/ride was more like FIAT & in true control of their beasts under hood. I never found Fiesta S, Ikon 1.6 or Accent-petrol (1.6, 100bhp??) to be anything like performance. Neither their engines were beast or too powerful to control. They were simply not fast. I test drove Fiesta S, nothing special & was disappointed as i expected more. I would personally rate ANHC/Verna CRDI-2007 more than Ford's.

I feel like  too when people say Fiesta S was a driver's car. Since so many people claim, better to doubt myself & not challenge their view. New Fiesta though, I have heard is a very good one. Nothing tailor made about it & true international ford product. & Hell yeah, Ford sold 77 units last month:wow. We Indians love kicking around good cars & make them beggars, don't we:mrgreen:? Looking forward to test drive it if i could manage.

I am now confused between 75 hp and 90 hp punto. I will go to Concorde tomorrow and if I feel 90 hp comes with good discounts I will book it else I have to live with 75 hp :(
