Hi, I am new to driving and new to cars. But when I planned to buy a car I went through reviews of all hatchbacks and I was astonished by the faith the fans have for fiat. Now I understand what the passion for car is all about and decided to buy punto as I have become a true fiat fan. When I told my collegue about my intention, he laughed at me saying so many things against fiat/punto. He said, "fiat as a company is going to close down their shops in india and no service/spares will be available" and that "I am a stupid to spend my hard earned money on fiat that has produced just two models in last five years (struggling to spread)". "I cannot get it serviced anywhere outside Chennai or any other non-metro for that matter". He indirectly pushes me for figo and being a potential first gen car owner and still a learning to drive i couldnt counter any of his arguments. Slowly I am also worried about its low presence on roads and what if fiat decided to shut their service and spares. What will I do with my 7 lac+ car? Firends we all are like a family and help me with good points for fiat punto and compare its +ves against figo. BTW my dream is to own a Punto 1.3 MJD EMotion

Do your live your life for your colleagues? Go ahead and book what your heart longs for! If you need to satisfy each of your friends and family needs you wouldn't buy a car in your lifetime.

The service is not that great, but parts are available, company closing down is all load of bull. How does your colleague predict all this?

Was Ford in a better position before Figo launch, they launched a car based on a old platform with older fusion and fiesta parts and are doing okay. Ford was known for expensive maintenance and after Figo the entire indian public seem to have forgotten it.

Lastly there are many satisfied users in this very forum and we discuss every single thing in detail.

Do not worry. FIAT will never shut its shop in India. Figo as well is a good car. No denying about that. However, in comparision of features etc., Punto races ahead. Compare, think and then decide for yourself. Do not decide on what others tell - this includes advise from anyone asking you to buy this car, that car etc., Do exhaustive research, read forums and then decide. It is your money, you are going to own it and have the pleasure of deciding on your own.

India is too important a market to be left by any manufacturer let alone Fiat. Even with low volumes of cars, it is able to keep people aware about the best in class products it has. If you have read through the forums you can check the number of efforts being put in 2012 to push Fiat into high growth mode and probably the marketing is resulting in people like yourself looking for FIAT.
    • Fiat is setting up independent showrooms
    • Independent service centre
    • Providing features of new cars in older ones
    • Tata - Fiat service centre are present in every small town that you can think of. In fact more service centres than Ford
    • Ford servicing is nothing great to write about. Similar to Fiat. Here Warrant is honored without asking questions.
    • I personally believe in products rather than brand. Punto is a product par excellence. Take back to back test drive. Now one will need to convince you

Now the 2nd part about listening to your heart or your friend, just think how you would feel after buying a Figo and seeing a Punto on the road. Feature to feature, car to car, there is no comparison of Punto and Figo. You need to compare at least with a Swift.
Buy the Punto at let your Figo friend take her for a spin after the run-in. Then it will be time for him/her to laugh at himself/herself.:D

Thanks friends for your supporting replies. My heart says only punto and i cannot digest if I buy figo and see somebody's punto zipping past me. Yesterday I visited VST motors in Chennai and got rough quote verbally. With all the discounts I am entitled to it came to 7.65 on road for 1.3 MJD emotion. Is it a decent offering or I have to see quote from Concorde also? Is it the right time to buy or I can wait till mid of the year to get more discounts? Finally I want to go for emotion just for its Blue and me which is fascinating. Can I add it for some extra cost in Dynamic? I see 70-80 K difference for this feature alone, but I desperately want to have it in my car though it costs me 1 lac. I feel B & me puts me in a different league among my friends

After you have gotten yourself a Punto , ask you friend to take a drive of your Punto.

    He'll be like - :shock::cry::-|

That apart, Figo is not comparable to the Punto. It is a segment below, even though the Ford boffins/fans may have you believe otherwise.

And FIAT is not going anywhere. Very soon you will be seeing one of the first independent dealerships coming up at Hyderabad. Also, one of the first exclusive FIAT service centres is coming up at Okhla. FIAT Caffe's are an initiative to gain more brand visibility (and sales) .So, rest assured on that part.

Go for the 2012 Punto Emotion if your budget can be stretched to the Emotion from Dynamic. Not only Blue n Me, but you'll be getting 15" alloy wheels + Climate Control etc.

    Cheers.

Valid points...But times of India news stated Fiat will be covering entire dealership only by 2015-looks bit long. Is it true that figo will touch ground if 3 people sitting at the back? Technically how MJD engine is superior than TDCi engine of ford?

    sundar,
Out of 100 cars single punto is enough to steal the show and hope you will be proud owner of that punto.

I believe you are based in Chennai, if yes the emotion model can be had for 7.5. Also the independent service centre is coming before end of this year for sure. Only in non-metros they will get it slowly. The car as such is reliable and hasn't left many stranded in middle of roads.

Don't believe everything you read on paper, afterall they are here to do business as well.

As for the engine superiority just drive them back to back and you'll understand. Figo is built for a price and it shows everywhere.
