You need not panic and goto MD Cardio at once, although its your call ofcourse. Do realize that generic tests do not always provide a complete picture of the actual threat or risk to a patient. Hence the suggestion to take a Coronary Risk Factors Test to have a better understanding of your health. Make small but definite changes and try not to over-stress yourself unless apart from those needed for moderate exercise. Long walks coupled with diet changes will bring these down and a bit of assisted medication as suggested by doctors. An experienced General Practitioner could guide you well and refer you to a cardiologist if needed. If however you have severe symptoms of any kind, you could approach a specialist directly. Once again opinion and suggestions of @Bala or @PaddleShifter where needed.

i have seen my dad with each and every problem related to health, in 1998 gone through bypass surgery in chennai.
then later developed with Blood Sugar, in 2005 again started series of surgeries.First right leg tanden bone cut while walking (this was due to diabetis)which took almost one year to get heal.Same happened to left leg as well in early 2007.Then right hand little finger gone dead due to small cut in 2008.in 2009 right leg amputation.Since then dad didnt had anymore problems with health, regular health checkup, daily insulin. After one year decided to buy a car, take around dad to native(andhrapradesh) weekend outing, that is how i got grande punto_On March 15th dad passed away due to mild heart stroke in midnight 2:45am.
After seeing all this things ,consulted to our family doctor, advised me to get health check-up long back.

    @Ganges,
A TFIan member of ours has taken a great initiative and started a forum —
    http://www.forums.dlife.in/
Kindly register there and go through various threads there with regards blood sugar control and diabetes. I fortunately have not had sugar issue till date, but try to update myself with the great amount of research and experience shared there. Definitely read that and take preventive care.

@rusticnomad comment further as needed, Thanks.

The term "Doctor of Medicine" or MD also is ambiguous if read in singularity. You could read more about it on Wiki.
The problem is more with Quacks or Quackery. In a city like Mumbai if you go in slum areas you might find such fakes more than other areas. They thrive on the fact that their ignorant illiterate patients would not even know or could not do anything if their medicines were the cause that injured or killed them or their relatives. There have been drives in Mumbai (IMA and AMC led) which were effective to some extent atleast against the bigger quacks. The smaller ones still prop-up once in a while and while its not easy to go undetected there is little that educated people would actually do even if they would like to report such suspicious looking ponga pandit types.

They all are supposed to display their certificates. Even in Ayurveda for example there are specialties which a doctor specialises in though I have yet to come across doctors who display that prominently outside their clinics. Like mainstream doctors display M.D. ortho. or cardio. and other such.
    ayurveda-7-728.jpg

There are various councils setup under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and there are various other apex bodies and regulatory authorities that are established and evolving with a proper system to take care of all registered medical practitioners including Modern Medicine (allopathy), homeopathy, ayurveda, siddha (from south), Unani and others too. As time passes by there could be better transparency and more stringent rules and regulations, guidelines for all doctors and also benefit patients at large.

The degrees are for ease of clear distiction and understanding MBBS, MD, MS (with/without exceptions) in allopathy, homeopathy, ayurveda and possibly others too. The confusion is there due to mass awareness about specialties and their meaning which as you say could be highlighted by awareness campaigns and education at school or college level educations too.

Rather than being helpful in giving suggestions that could be of help in addressing health related queries, this thread has become a doctor /medical science bashing thread.
How is that there is no software engineer bashing thread, advocate bashing thread, architect bashing thread, etc.
It has become quite fashionable to spew venom on doctors and the profession.

My apologies if the discussion has hurt anybody - intention was not that. As far as the question of why other professions are not bashed as much as medical profession - it is a question for the medical community to think and introspect about why they have become the target.

I rest my argument here and stop seeing this thread because if I see the discussion I feel like adding to the discussion which many will not like.

I thought this thread will be used to seek advice from the Doctors in the forum for a medical condition. Are we not completely moving away from the objective?

I agree @ramjn, request you to move all lengthy posts to general discussions if need be. Deleting this post too will be necessary eitherways.

Yes. I am going to move those posts to a separate thread.

Let me put it straight. This thread is meant to seek advice from Doctors. Those who don't have faith in them/medical science or don't need any advice, they better keep off from this thread. Making this a issue will invariably affect those who really need some medical advice and have faith with the Doctors in this forum. :)

And to make it clear, no Doctor here will advice on the medications. They will just guide them on the next steps (on consulting a right specialist) and also say if an immediate attention is needed or not.

@Tornado, you are right too, but the same discussion could be continued on a different thread too and we will hopefully as and if needed. @ramjn, please point us if possible to the thread. Perhaps titled, general medicine discussions? or similar, Just wondering... :)
