Some of the probable points may be included in the new Motor Vehicle Bill.

    - The new Motor Vehicle Bill under preparation may have a provision specifying standards for road maintenance including filling potholes. Road owning agencies would be held responsible for failure to comply with the norms and if crashes happen due to bad road condition.

    - The new Act may also push for over Rs 2,000 fines for common offences such as red light jumping, not wearing seatbelt and helmet, and higher penalties for speeding, driving under influence of alcohol.

    - There would be stiff penalties for holding more than one driving licence to curb the practice and also bike racing by youngsters in cities.
