    Hi all,

Well, after a lot of hunting and surveying, TDing cars in the 9-12 lakh bracket, it came down to two cars- Hyundai Verna Fluidic 1.6 CRDi and Fiat Linea Emotion 1.3 MJD.
Frankly, the Linea was never in the race in my mind earlier but few days before going to the Hyundai dealer it came to my mind that why am I not considering Linea as I loved its exterior; but had no knowledge of whats under the hood or its interior space. On a friday I went to the Hyundai dealer to TD the Verna and take a quotation for the car. On saturday I got to learn that Fiat is breaking up with TATA and their exclusive showroom had already opened up a few months ago at Janpath. The Fiat Caffe. And the very next day, went there to check out the car and TD it. Well, I was quite impressed with the showroom-cum-cafe set-up. The calm environment there, unlike any other showroom where the sales advisers are hustling between customer to customer. But then I thought, FIAT ki gaadi leta to koi hai nahi tabhi khaali pada hai. Anyhow, I took off from that place after about an hour and a half. You can now make out by the amount of time I spent there, how anxious I was about the Linea. TDed it for almost half an hour.

And when I stepped out of the showroom and sat back into my Honda City, I knew that it was the Linea that I am going to buy.

I took some time in finalizing though as I wanted to be bloody sure before making the move. On many points the Fiat should go into introspection like for one, following up their prospective customers. Like for instance, from the very next day I got calls from the Hyundai salesman everyday without miss and not a single call from the Fiat guy(and he was talking about Fiat getting aggressive in the market) BULLSHIT!!!
Now lets cut short the length of the post. So, in exactly two weeks from the TD, I had a gleaming new Linea Emo Pk 1.3 MJD, minimal grey colour (now about a month old). Already run for about 2000 kms.:dance

A big shout-out to "AXN", who helped a lot in the whole process and sealing the deal with the Noida dealer. Thanks a ton Sirji

Well with this decision I took two new steps- 1. Bought a Fiat having owned Marutis in the past and having a Hyundai and a Honda at present; 2. Moved to diesel from petrol, as I am a petro-head. But my running is a lot, also I love to drive around never thinking how far a place is or how much traffic I'll face , so diesel was my choice.

So, people thats about it. Also I was thinking of sharing the downsides in this car at which I frown upon almost everyday(but no fretting). Then I thought, you all must be knowing them plus I'll save that for other threads and forums, for now lets just introduce myself.

    <fieldset class="postcontent" style="margin: 5px 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; word-wrap: break-word;"><legend style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px;"> paperclip.png Attached Images</legend> 44613d1366361996-hello-all-you-fiatians-imag0334.jpg 44614d1366362020-hello-all-you-fiatians-imag0335.jpg 44615d1366362048-hello-all-you-fiatians-imag0336.jpg </fieldset>

All of the written above is the same as I had posted in the Introduce Yourself forum because I didn't know then that this all was supposed to come here. But now that I have introduced myself, I would also like to talk about the niggles in the Linea which I didn't do there. Lets start as we did in school--- They are the following:-

    1. Leg space for the passengers in the back-seat.
    2. The Dead pedal is dead. Not a comfortable shift of foot from the clutch to the dead pedal. One has to lift his/her foot to rest it on the dead-pedal. Not of much use while city driving.
    3. The music system sucks. Big time. The worst part- You can't change it or else, Blue&Me will go off forever.
    4. No option for AUX-Input. Frustration mounts everyday.
    5. One cannot change the track from the mouth of the music system when using a flash drive(USB mode). Only the driver has the "POWER" of changing the tracks. Also the track name flashes only in the HUD and not on the system's display.
    6. Fiat did the formality of providing us with a Glove Compartment. Space.... Schmace.
    7. Ergonomics are not upto the mark. Bottle holders can hold only pint-sized bottles(500-600 ml) or small cans. And when you do keep a bottle(s), you'll hit the bottle(s) while going into either the 1st, the 3rd or the 5th gear. The A.C. vents, knobs and jog-keys on the music system and on the Climate Control are of poor quality. The Power window controls and the OVRM controls on the driver's side's door are not placed aptly.
    8. The brakes leave a soot-like black colorant on the alloys.

I knew about almost all the above downsides in the car before buying it, so none to blame and not much fretting there. Its just that after possessing something that you loved before, the good points with time start fading away and the bad ones pop-up like those pop-up advertisement windows that come up while watching porn over the internet.

Well, thats about it folks. Do drop in a reply and do suggest if any of the above be taken care of, or modified.

Congrats sk16. You would fall in love with ride quality and stability of this beast when you would drive this beauty everytime.

Can you narrate your comparison with Verna and the factors that made you purchase Linea 1.3?

    Hey thanks RKK.

The factors that worked towards the Linea for me were-

Firstly, the roar of the MJD. Verna didn't sound this good, although it has a bigger engine.
Secondly, the drivetrain and the ride quality of the Linea is any day better than Verna's.
Third, the wheelbase, the bodyroll and the soft suspension of the Verna works against it. Whereas the Linea comes out victorious in all these categories. Also I was tempted by the 16" alloys.
Fourth, the acceleration in the Verna did not seem uniform to me. Although the Linea is sluggish in the 1st and the 2nd gear, but after the 3rd it keeps the speedometer ticking.
Fifth, The seats of the Verna weren't that great too. And the leg space for the passengers at the back is more or less the same in both the cars.

Also I would say the looks of the car. But that is a pretty subjective thing. Depends on individual to individual.

Congratulations. U made a right choice if u enjoy highway drives. No car in this segment comes close to linea.trust me. It took me a year and 12k kms to realize that I'm driving the best handling car. Routine TDs does not show lineas true character. It is when you take her out on an open highway it puts a biiiig smile on the face. Njoy the drives

Man, I never cared to come back to this thread.

Thanks a ton Karan. Took it on the highway for about 4-5 times and am highly impressed.

Thanks a lot Jishnu. 13,000 kms done in the Linea and am enjoying the refined drive. That black brake dust still makes its way to the alloy.

If there is no brake dust, you should be worried, as it is quite possible that the pads have worn out beyond their usable range. As long as you are seeing dust, all is well :D

Thanks Rajan. Didn't know about that. But what is the exact reason for this ?
