Just go there, it's been heard as good enough to spent a day.

I don't think you should waste your time by going there now...

Better you go there July or early august...

Now there would'nt be enough water over there..

Chennai>Trichy bypass>Pudukottai>Thirumayam bypass>Karaikudi. Trichy - Karaikudi is a newly laid 2-lane road; but toll was not collected from me in February 2014. Pillayarpatti and Kundrakudi are two popular temples that could be visited between Thirumayam and Karaikudi.

Have they completed the work between Trichy-Pudukottai? When I drove in Jan this year, the road between Trichy and Pudukottai was under construction with few deviations. But, still very much drivable.

There are more than a dozen temple around Karaikudi to visit. Notable places are Kunnakudi, Pillaiyarpatti, Pattamangalam, Thirukostiyur, Kuberar Kovil (near to Pillayarpatti). Also, do visit the Chettinad houses at the Kanadukaththan. It is worth a visit.

For food, do not fail to have lunch at 'The Annalakshmi Restaurant'. A Rs. 65 full meals is the best I have had so far outside my home. :) They also cook traditional rices like Kuthiraival arisi, Samai, Kaikuththal on order.

Additional information - Have you heard about Ramanujar and the ThiruMandiram Story? It happenened at the Thirukostiyur. It is a big temple and worth visiting.

In Feb 2014, the toll plazas were almost ready. There were no diversions. Pudukottai bypass was not completed; so, I drove through Pudukottai.

    Hello,

    This is my first post!!

I am travelling to Cherukunnu in Kannur on 1-Aug-2014. Anechowkoor-Hunsur Road.jpg
Starting point is Rammurthy Nagar, at about 4:30 PM :traffic

I need info on Mysore bypass road - This route is blocked since last few months for all vehicles except two wheelers due to repair or construction work (i guess building new bridge ???)
Is this now open for cars? Any latest update on this?

Next query is 8.8 kms (not more than this, i had noticed last time :)) bad stretch in Hunsur - Anechowkoor Road.
I had travelled from Sreekandapuram, Kannur to Bangalore on 20-July-2014. This route is better than any alternative.
on 20th July, first 2.8 kms from Anechowkoor is in worst condition, I had to crawl in 1st and occasionally in 2nd gear. You can see this stretch in uploaded videoRoad in next ~4 kms is better, I could drive comfortably in 30-40 kmph.
The last ~2 kms is levelled and drivable at 50-60 kmph.
Rest of the stretch is tarred and good condition.

Is there any firther update on this?

No idea on status, but crossing Mysore from inside also should not be a big issue, if timing is not at peak hours.
