185 mm is too much for a car... i dont think linea can provide that without looking outright ugly in its stance and wobbly performance...165 may be because of bigger tyres

Isn't it just a cm . how much that would make difference in looks?
It is definitely beneficial on our roads.

Yes they can. Take Honda, VW and Hyundai as cases in point. All the three have pretty much established themselves as very strong players.

Now, there is single pivotal difference between the Tata-Fiat joint venture and the other two you mentioned.

While in both other cases, the Totyota-Kirloskar and Maruti-Suzuki ventures, the international partner faces no conflict of interest from the Indian counter part, Tata not only is directly in conflict of interest with Fiat in it being an auto-maker in its own right, to make matters worse it poses itself as a competition to Fiat with products from TATA pitted directly against every offering of Fiat's.

Another joint venture in the recent past had a similar fundamental problem, which could have limited the fortunes and prospects of the incoming foreign partner and that was the Mahindra-Logan JV. However, the Frenchmen were smart enough to spot Mahindra's own aspirations and briskly pulled out of the partnership. They knew they had to bring in the Duster soon and it would have to be directly pitted against the upcoming XUV 500 from Mahindra. They played a shrewd tactical game by launching the Fluence, knowing very well that this product wont really be a money spinner. The objective was to position themselves in a different league from their erstwhile partner and launch a product where Mahindra had no play. They then indulged in heavy marketing campaign to reinforce their positioning and soon when they think the market is adequately cooked, they will bring in the Duster.

I strongly believe Fiat's way out of this doldrums cannot be any different. They need to pull out the Linea and Punto briefly from the market and introduce their flagships i.e. the Bravo and the 500s through their Fiat Caffe initiative for a tactical manuvuer. Sure they will not be money spinners in the short term and for now can stay afloat by selling engines as OEM. While doing so, Fiat can use these new product introductions as an opportunity to re-position itself as a higher league premium player. To reinforce that, Fiat can bring in select offerings Maserati, Lancia and Alfa Romeo. As the volumes are going to be low, Fiat has a chance to set its supply chain and distribution chain in order correcting their brand perception in the country, focusing city by city and region by region.

If they can achieve that Fiat would be able to create an opportunity to comedown a segment lower and reintroduce the newer editions of Linea and Punto after an year or so.

Discontinuing Linea and Punto would damage fiat brand even more in India, it will be written as an another quit of fiat from India.
Who would be willing to open a Fiat showroom seeing the dwindling sales of Fiat cars.

Im once again saying ignore the Motorbeam scoop!! Nor Linea or the Punto would get the 185 - 195mm GC.Worst nightmare the Linea would look like the ugly SX4 with that kinda tall stance loosing all its characteristics to handle.
